2k1 SE 0-60 speeds

Hi, I was testing out my stock 2k1 SE automatic from a red light just to see how fast it was. My friend in the car counted from his watch as we tried to time the 0-60 from a red light.

We were surprised by the time. it took me 14 secs the first time and 12 secs the second time to reach 60 mph from 0. Am i doing something wrong? I figured that I probably don't know how to drive it fast well at all. Is there a special way to drive to get fast 0-60 times?

Thanks!

Of course not. I did think I was pushing the car pretty hard too. It reach like 5000 RPMs on the tacometer at one point before it changed gears. Doesn't the 2k1 automatic have a 0-60 time of like 8 secs?

Speaking of the e-brake. I once drove about a mile with it on and when i reached the parking lot there was this burning smell coming from the brakes. Could anything bad have happened?

Thanks!

Pick one:

1)You and your friend weigh about 500 lbs. each?

2)You were going uphill?

3)You had 500 lbs. of mulch in the trunk?

4)You had just filled the Max up with Jack Daniels?

5)You and your friend had just filled up with Jack Daniels?

6)All of the above?

Seriously, I don't have a clue. You would think that under normal street conditions and not manually shifting the automatic you would at least be in the 8 to 9 second range.

I don't have an auto, but see if you can get the shift to happen at the redline. Also, start the clock at the same time you mash the gas. If your friend is saying "GO!" and then you floor it you are adding a sec to your time.

Nope she and me combined weigh like 300lbs. It was a straight road with an empty trunk. Hehe, drinking and driving? Never.

Do you just mash on the gas and not let go? I thought you had to let up a bit to allow the transmission to switch gears. Also, she starts counting when she feels the car move. So I may be getting 1 sec less on the clock since I move then she counts.

I have also read about on the forums about manually shifting an auto transmission. How do you do that?

Yeah, mash and don't let up. Don't worry, there's a rev limiter.

Now I don't feel so bad about my (stopwatched and accelerometer-timed) 9-10 second times! Thanks. With OD off, traction-control off, torque-braking and manual-shifting I have got down to a best of 8.2 seconds. The numbers don't look so good but I still feel that my car is fast so I'm not too worried about it. 12-14 seconds I would be worried about though. Something ain't right there.

Note the the automatic in the Max prevents the car from using all of its power. The transmission will shift before the car reaches peak power and (of course) long before readline. For this reason you'll see cars like the V6 200hp Accord have comparable 0-60 times as a 222 hp 2000 model Maxima.

Did she skip some numbers counting?, should have taken a dry run with her fingers and toes and see how that went.
