OMG. I'm replying to my own post. I feel like one of them post wh*res.

I forgot to add that in the colder climates, there's supposed to be a winter gas formulation that has more volitile compounds, and you get a lower mpg. Those in warmer climates don't have this change. They're probably changing over now, but I'm not familiar with the schedule.

sorry, confusing again

...driving on the highway with windows down reduces mileage by about 1%, using A/C is less.
should have said "using A/C you lose less"... you're right, using A/C on the highway is better for mileage than opening the windows.

Funny, I saw an article a couple years ago talking about how using your A/C w/ windows up on the highway uses less gas than w/ windows down w/ A/C off.
Also this may be at a pretty high speed.

Milage Update!

It CAN happen.

Latest mileage from my car:

Broke 400 miles! This never revving over 3,000 RPM mostly Highway. Some H.W. in traffic. Didn't look at average speed, though. Also, didn't break 70 MPH.

Mileage

I have a 2K2 Auto GLE, I ALWAYS have the A/C on, and I TRY to keep my foot out of it...

My best mileage? Reno to Santa Cruz @ 25.6 MPG. Since I bought my Max on October 27th, 18.61 average. Mostly driving in town, the most freeway I get is the ten miles to work, on the way home I cut through the mountains.

I think the mileage is great... especially when I jump on the freeway and burn all those Beamers commuting from San Jose to the coast... Oops! Was that ME driving 125?

Trip computers havenot been accurate since 1980 when they first started appearing in cars. Donot expect them to be perfect because you will be upset often, from experience with my 2k2 and previous Caddy and BMW.

Has anyone added an A/F Meter/Controller to their Maxima? It would be great to know how Nissan programmed their ECU. If we are getting really bad fuel economy, and maybe running rich, then a little tweaking of A/F ratios could improve HP and also provide improved fuel economy.

As a side note, Subaru WRX's come from the factory set to run lean to prevent tweakers from inadvertently blowing up the engine . . . could Nissan have done the same with the 3.5 VQ engine?

gas milage

just completed a 2400 mile round trip, interstate/mountain back road's combined. interstate cruise at 2000/2200 rpm 32/33 mpg. with air condition 28 mpg.this was a very acurate measure as i topped off the tank every time, the trip computer was off 5/6 mpg.most people wont have this kind of patience as top speeds were 68mph. were retired and in no hurry.
