Dash Kit Question

I am looking for people's opinions on DASH KITS; I am interested in getting the 3D English Burl Woodview Dash kit for my 5spd 2000 SE (there are few kits available for standard trannies).

Does anyone have an opinion on 3D kits vs. Flat kits?

Thanks,
T

I am looking to get a dash kit for the 2K2. I have a 2002 SE in Majestic Blue with Frost Cloth. Ideas anyone? Also I would like to know what people's experiences have been with flat vs. molded dash kits.

I have the burlwood flat dash kit which I bought on ebay last year. The kit is very hardy and stands up to abuse, liquids and pointy objects. It has not faded from the sun (and I don't know if that is because I have tint or because of the quality of the trim)

The kit complements the interior of the car well..my max is Sunlit Sand with the tan interior....The kit came with over 20 pieces for the doors, instrument panel rear doors, rear ashtray, and vents.

The only complaint that I have about my kit is that the seller sent me one for an automagic so there is a big gap around the stick that the piece does not cover, but I recently found another seller who was nice enough to have the piece made for me for a reasonable price.

once I get the piece I can take pics of the interior and post on my homepage....I don't have any posted now because that gap irks the heck out of me....sort of like an imperfection...and I want ya'll to see my boo at her best!

It is another one of those mods that is asthetically pleasing. I've gotten nothing but compliments from passengers (and beef from ricey drivers jealous about the engine..but that's a whole new thread).

I've had the kit since April 2001 no complaints....no problems....

hope this long a$$ diatribe has helped

Is that a flat kit, or a molded kit? And what site did you get it from? I'm thinking of getting a molded aluminum kit for my 2k1.

For a sporty black on black look, definitely go with the brushed aluminum. But go with REAL aluminum, not just the fake one. Here's an auction for a set on EBay I saw for an 02 I think...they might have 00 kits too?: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ndexURL=0&rd=1

The fake brushed aluminum looks like shiny plastic from an angle. It also has that "bubble" atop the actual design. Sort of dome-like so to speak.

However, if you look at both items (real/fake) w/o the corners (just a sample strip) it's hard to tell. It's usually the corners that's a give-away.

Btw, Larry is also selling these for $200+ (215?).

Its only my opinion, but I didnt like the REAL aluminum. I could have gotten both kits for the same price. In my opinion the REAL aluminum is way to shiny in the sun. Since I live in So Cal, thats an issue, we have 364 days of sun a year, the synthetic brushed aluminum is more low key...my .02

Actually all the synthetics, carbon fiber and aluminum will hold up very well in sunlight. Just don't get real wood or it will fade in time with a lot of sun exposure.

I have a sample sheet of the available synthetics, woods, aluminum and carbon fiber if anyone is interested.
