side mirror vibration

I noticed a few other owners say that their side mirrors vibrate on the highway. Has anyone had a dealer successfully fix the vibration? My 02 GLE does it and the dealer can't/won't fix.

Mine wiggles(DRIVERs side of course!).

Next dealer appointment I'm going to have them "attempt" to fix it.

mine does it too, one of these days I am goin to get around to fixing it myself. It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to fix. The mirror just needs alittle something to make it more rigid. I might sacrifice the full motion of the electric mirror, but who moves them once they are set anyway.

I had this problem on my '00 Max and

the dealer ended up replacing the mirror(driver's side). The new one still wiggles, but not nearly as bad as the old one.

This is very common on 4th gens, although I wasn't familiar with it being an issue on 5th gens......

Just a thought

.org,

My mirrors were recently stolen and DaveB (The Man) got me some replacements. I don't know if its a coincidence but the right mirror did not have the same thick glue on the back as the left side.

I put it on without the glue and it seemed to rattle at times. I don't know if this is the same vibrating thing that is happening with you guys but to fix it DaveB sent me double sided 3M foam tape. Its real easy to check. Wrap a piece of cloth around a flat head screwdriver and insert it at the middle of the mirror into the lower gap and pry the mirror out towards you. It'll pop right out, then just check the back of the mirror to see if it has any tape.

Re: side mirror vibration

My driver's side does it too. It's not real noticeable till I check for gumballs coming up in the left lane behind me. If anyone has had this fixed at the dealer please post.

Also, what's the story with the double sided tape on the back of the mirror? I can't picture how this works.

Thanks.

I think the rattle is partly from the white plastic plate that mates with the black plastic backing of the mirror. If the foam tape is there it serves two purposes. It provides some stick (not enuff to stop thieves though) and prevents the two plastic pieces from directly touching (no more plastic versus plastic clatter/vibration).

Mine has done it since day one on rough highway surfaces, and of course for some reason it is the drivers side only. Sounds like a trend...

when someone decided to smash my mirror with a hammer, i had to get it replaced. my old mirror did not flutter, and neither does my new one. its real tight, and cannot be turned in without considerable force. i guess im just lucky i got one thats like that. i would *think* that theres a screw somewhere inside the housing that lets the mirror swivel, and tightening it would keep the mirror more stable.

2k2 GLE Merlot 6000 miles on it.
BOTH mirrors vibrate like crazy!
Anyone know of a TSB on 'em?
Also rear shelf rattles (left side).
Off to the dealer I go - GRRRRRR!
However, love the car!

Mirror Vibration, dealer, BOSE, Wind Noise and MORE...

HAD to take my 02 GLE (Merlot) (sweet), in to a Nissan Dealer, Napleton's Northlake (North Palm Beach, FL) for the RECALL for Front End Links. SO.... I had the dealer look at the OTHER problems: Vibrating Sideview Mirrors, Wind Noise, Rattling Hood and vibrating BOSE sub-woofer. Well they DID fix the RECALL. But broke my mirror glass, had to wait two weeks to get another one. Now it's WORSE than before. Think they fixed the hood rattle. BOSE - they couldn't find the problem (NTF). Yeah, right. Wind noise they replaced some gaskets, now that's WORSE. Nissan ENGINEERS should be shot. These problems carry over from one year to another. Same with the BRAKE issue I had on my 2000 GLE. I will go in for the THIRD time, then write to FL Lemon Law folks and the BBLine and then they will send someone out to fix the problem(s) right. Had to do this last time with the brake issue on my '00. No one fixed it right till I screamed and threatened. NISSAN BUYERS BEWARE! Damn I love the car and the features and the accelleration but NOT these annoying little problems. What's happening to the Japanese? Quality? Where? Thanks for letting me VENT. I will keep you posted. Another NISSAN (this is my 4th Maxima), I doubt it.

Wayne I feel your pain. This is my second max and I can clearly see how the quality had detioriorated since my 91 Max. And yes I have the vibrating side mirrow but it's only on the drivers side.

Does anyone have a problem with the rearview mirror vibrating when there's music playing.

BTW I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of the wind noise...but I believe it's the side mirrors that are creating the noise. When I folded them inwards and drove 70 mph there was less noise although it could just have been my imagination.

SH Patel I forgot to mention that one, I have that issue in both my 97 and 02 as well, but not in my old 93.

i have the same problem on my 2k2 se. my right mirror vibrates on the highway, my left does too, but not nearly as much. and this is proven because when my bass hits, the right mirror moves considerably more. i told the dealer about this 1 month after my car, they said that its normal because air gets between the plastic and the actual mirror and makes it move. i think its bs and i asked him to replace it, he said it wont do anything their all like this. and one question, at about 90-110 my hood vibrates like alot of wind is going through it, id their a tsb on it?

Mirror Vibration 02 GLE - UPDATE

Nissan / Nissan Dealers do it AGAIN!
Took it in to the dealer for fixing the drivers side sideview mirror which shakes like it's going to fall off. Well - the broke it. Had to order S.O. parts. 10 Days later, parts installed - guess what? Problem is WORSE. They also re-installed door gasket (LR) for wind-noise. Problem is THE SAME. The said BOSE Woofer rattle - NTF = No Trouble Found. Well, I called Nissan Customer Satisfaction line. They WERE SOOOOOO NICE. Took all the details, etc. They are supposed to connect with the dealer and then back to me. HOWEVER, I will wait and see. I will keep you all posted on these 3 ITEMS to see if they are FIXED once and for all.

I think you missed the point. Everyone knows about the rear window tsb...he is asking if there is one for the front.

I'd love to know as well.

I've just come to the conclusion that these are loud cars, between the hissing, the rattles, and the wind.

If the stock stereo wasn't crap, I'd crank it.

UPDATE - FILM AT 11!!!
NOW after many phone conversations with Nissan Q.A. and Customer Relations they said my "issues" would be addressed by the next dealer visit. When the parts came in. After the DEALER toook a week to call me back - why the parts took so long, they don't know. I went back, spent 3 hours at the dealer while they replaced my BOSE Subwoffer. And guess-what! SAME old problem. Plus when I go there they acted like - what parts did we order for you again? Did someone call you and tell you the parts were in? ALSO - wind noise problem WAS NOT addressed and vibrating drivers mirror was not addressed either. Service manager I spoke to was no where to be found the day I went in to have all this done. I will NOW be picking up the phone again to Nissan H.Q. and *****ing some more. The quality, customer care and service TOTALLY SUCK. I strongly advise anyone to think twice about buying ANY NISSAN product. I am sure kicking myself. If more people complained MAYBE quality & service would improve. Maybe they just expect me to lie back and enjoy it. Maybe I should....

HOLY THREAD BUMP BATMAN!

I know it's been 13 yrs but has anyone found an actual solution to the shaking mirror issue? My I35's driver side mirror does this at highway speeds and it's frankly annoying.
