**HEADS UP** Pirelli P6000s in 225/50R17

I contacted Treadepot.com regarding the Pirelli P6000. The P6000 in 225/50R17 is not normally available in the United States. According to Bert, Treadepot.com made a special purchase from Germany and imported 45 of these tires. When they're gone, they're gone.

At $112.00 per tire, the Pirelli P6000 is a GREAT tire for the money. In fact, Bert said that they'd be raising their prices to around $120.00 on June 1st if they haven't sold out of them by then.

Think of it this way. You can buy TWO sets of Pirelli P6000s in 225/50R17 for the price of ONE set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's.

Get your orders in while they last. Call Bert at Treadepot.com: 888-421-8473.

The only thing is that if you have a blowout or other unrepairable puncture, your screwed.

You'll be luck to get....

25,000 miles out of these tires with a treadware rating of 180. Keep that in mind when making the purchase.

That just depends on how you drive them. I'm still running on my OEM Potenzas. I've got 23,000 miles on them right now. They're probably good for at least another 10,000 miles. And they have a treadware rating of 160.

PS: Believe me, I'd love to get rid of the Potenzas. Problem is, I can't justify buying new tires until they wear out.

I have 56,000 miles on my OEM Potenzas. They are not bald yet because they still have some treadlife left. So right now, I am in the market for a new set of tires and maybe rims also.

Everybody has their own opinion on tires, a33. I've read some reviews where people had nothing but glowing things to say about the P6000s while others thought they were crap. I could say precisely the same thing about the exhalted Kuhmo ECSTA Supra 712s.

The most often cited complaint about P6000s is that they tend to wear out quickly. But as you pointed out, they appear to have excellent traction. And I doubt they could be any worse than the OEM Potenzas.

At $112.00 per tire, I still think they're an excellent value. And if I were in the market for tires, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a set at that price. That's just my opinion, of course. And thanks for expressing yours.

Damn they look ugly. No offense. I'd rather have the Kumhos Ecstas. Just my opinion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my friend. And, of course, Kumho ECSTAs aren't available in 225/50R17. But then that may not be an issue for you.

I'll agree with you there. IMHO, the Nitto 450s are among the best looking tires on the planet. But I've seen several reviews that trashed them too for poor wet traction and noise. So who knows.

first of all i didnt say they have very good traction, just pretty good traction, but for the treadwear, they dont have good traction, they wear out even faster than some of the tires with the best traction....
but nevermind, just go on and buy those tires if you think you know so much..... for 112 a tire, that mightbe a good deal to YOU only...

Thank you again for your OPINION, a33.

I'm afraid I'm simply not clairvoyant enough to determine whether I'm the only person who considers the P6000s a good deal at $112.00 per tire. I, for one, don't like to make assumptions about what other people think. And what I think I know is none of your business.

Unless you've actually owned a set of Pirelli P6000s, you have nothing further to say that's of any interest to me. I'd much rather hear from people who have driven on them . . . people like these:

If any of you actually do purchase Pirelli P6000s in 225/50R17, please let us know what you think of them after you get them installed.

Thanks.

I've had them...

I've purchased P6000's twice. Once on a 96 SE-R and once on my wifes old Celica GT. I thought they were great tires. I only had the tires for 20K miles or so but they were wearing great. They were a little loud but not louder than the previous tires I had on. I mean they ARE performance tires, I didn't expect quiet. I thought that wet/dry performance was excellent. (Again, excellent wet for a performance tire) For $112 a tire, I would do it in a heartbeat. Fortunately, I only have 3k or I'd definitely be in on that deal.

would it be safe to run the Kumho ECSTAs 235/45-17's on our stock wheels, being that it's only 7in wide?

or should I just stay with the p6000's on the 225/50-17?

Let me answer this right off.......no. Please, never ever ever ever ask this again....you'll start a flame war to rival the pop vs CAI debate

Not a problem, Maximus1000. As I said before, I've always got the FAQs to refer people to . . .

No prob, I was just joking with ya. Somedays I feel like starting a thread that says, "I just put on my CAI with 235 tires on stock rims in my automagic that can kill any of your cars". I'm sure it would take about 37 seconds to start receiving the flames.

Thanks.

I have 2 Pirelli P6000s 225/50R17 Z rated and 2 Michelin Pilots also Z rated (long story). Yes I realize that if you look everywhere on the web you will not see these tires being sold anywhere but if anyone is from the Bay Area, I got them at the Sunnyvale Firestone dealership for about $180 a piece.
Unfortunately, I can't comment too much as I'm not sure if performance is altered in anyway by a mixed tire set such as mine. However, I don't have anything negative to say about them either.

Then again.....I've been known to drive on bald tires and not notice a thing. guess i'm not that much help here, eh? however if you are interested in contacting the Sunnyvale Firestone, I have the number somewhere here, just let me know.....

Thanks, 2kSEgirl. So based on what you said about the P6000s running you $180.00 each, Treadepot.com's price of $112.00 per tire is a STEAL! Would you agree with that statement?

I need to replace my Potenzas to something.
It is scary to drive on them when it rains. Yesterday, when driving I was slidding everywhere on almost any corner. Taking any corner past 20mph would give you that hint of a slide.
Damn this tires suck.

I want to replace them, but my Potenzas are so brand new. Just got the car couple months ago.

Do you think the tire store can buy them back from me for some money when I get other tire?

UM, after spending about $850 on all four with installation, road hazard, etc.......i'm tempted to stock up for the next time i need new tires. this is a really fabulous deal, thanks for sharing y2kse.

for anyone who is in the market for new tires: if you don't want to spend both arms and legs, this is the way to go. let me save you some time by telling you i looked around everywhere to get a respectable tire without breaking the bank and $180 was the best i could do. (if you live near a costco, you might try contacting them, although the only one they carried is the michelin pilot z rated which is now discontinued by the company, but they may have some old ones lying around.....they sell them for less than $200 also).
