A 2k Auto Maxima will not have a chance. The auto 2k-2k1 is over 1 sec slower than the TL-S or CL-S. That is a fact.

OMG here we go again!

As an owner of an '01 CLS, it wouldn't surprise me that you might have pulled away if you indeed were racing in excess of 105.
Our weakness in high speed racing is in out tall 4th gear. Hell, it shifts into about 4000 RPM. Not exactly in the power band we need.
I've destroyed eclipses...until I shift into 4th, then its pretty dang even. From 105-115ish is our definate weak spot.

Hopefully the 6-speed will help us be a little more competative at ~105+ mph.
T
he funny thing also, is that once we get back in to 5000+ RPM range, it begins to pull relatively hard again. Just the weakness due to gearing is hindering us at the beginning of that gear. Sucks.

Happy Motoring,

Brian

I weighed my car, it weighs 3440lb. The TL-S is 4 doors, is longer and bigger, it does not just weigh 20 more lb.

How did you do that??

Did you weigh yourself on the bathroom scale first, then pick-up your car and subtract the difference?

Seriously, between the 2K2 Max and TL-S it's just hair splitting. Between the TL-S and the Y2K Max, I bet I could WHOOP a Y2K Max if I were driving the TL-S especially if the Y2K is an auto. In a similar circumstance, I was able to beat a 3.5SE Altima with the rental 3.2TL (225hp) I was driving.

Just being honest.

Wow, i find that last comment very hard to believe, a 3.5SE, you sure it wasn't a 2.5S? The reason i'm saying this is because there is much argument about whether the Altima 3.5 is actually faster than the 2k2 Max (which is comparable to the TLS and CLS) and seeing as how the TL is only made in auto, i find it hard to believe that a 3.5SE could be beaten by a TL... Maybe he/she wasn't racing (no intentions to flame, just curious)

Dual outlet exhaust, stock Nissan 17s, '3.5SE' badge on tailgate with Temp tag in the rear window (NJ)...oh yeah!! No doubt. Couple that with the fact that I sized him up for couple miles before we initially lined up. Trust me, we were racing. Though I say I beat him, I only had about a bumper on him by the time we elapsed a 1/4 mile distance, it was probably because I got better traction "off the line" where he had some wheelspin.

From what I've seen the 3.5SE AUTO isn't particularly quick. Outside of this impromptu race, I had a chance to see one at Etown which ran a best time of 15.9 seconds (YES, it was a 3.5SE!) with 800miles on the odo.

Maybe it's my Honda bias but the TL/CL and TLS/CLS are no slouches. If raced correctly, it'll give the 3.5SE Altima and 2K2 Max a run for the money; especially on the highway.

OK, I'll jump in.....

I've gone at it a few times with my wife in her CL-S, she in auto, me in 6 speed. My car is faster, whether it be from a light or pulling out of a corner in 2nd.

Just my $0.02 worth. However, it's worth noting the CL-S handling is superior to the Maxima IMHO, with the front end not washing out as quickly despite being "under-tired". It's also easier to drive hard, and has banished the torque steer that is present in the Maxima. Then again, we paid about $5K more for it too.

Hey - you wanted to know, right ?

Black CL-S; I ate him alive and he became a speck somewhere in my sideview mirror right next to a water spot. Maybe my boost had something to do with it too

I didnt race one at the same time but my friend ran it at the track the same time I ran mine and he was a full second slower than me. I ran a 15.2 and he ran a 16.2. These times are horrible to the the track elevation. Whoever has raced at LACR knows what Im talking about.

Well I dont live in Mt. Everest. I live in LA and the track was at Palmdales LACR. And I have had an auto max before and there isnt much to driving an auto while racing. He had about 4 runs they got better and better a little bit but the last two runs were identical.

yes raced a CL-S beat it buy a good enough amount to qualify as a win- from a standstill and 100+ on the freeway

raced a TL-S modded with intake headers exhaust chip... 0-60 (or there abouts) and 90+ on the freeway

both were autos and I noticed me pulling away most in 5th gear at 100+

I raced the stock TL-S when I was stock too beat it buy a lil bit not a very win but we wnt at it a few times results were the same

I have a '97 GXE 5spd
at the time i was mod'd with Y, Cat, CAI, catback exhaust

Good for you, TL-S doesn't have a chip out for it anyways.

Re: This thread's a blast from the past!

That's not usual for an Altima to run that slow. The best ET for a 2002 Altima 5 speed is 13.97. There are some automatics running mid 14's. I think one ran a 14.3.
