I use nothing but natural sea sponges on my cars as they do not scratch or cause damage. The down side is expense, I would normally buy them from Auto Geek for $25.00 for a quarter cut sponge (lasts about a year), so I’m surfing around, looking for what I don’t remember and ran across this bath supply place (nice soaps and such crap) well they had cultured 10” whole sea sponges for $19.00 ea! are these safe to use without scratching the paint? they always looked a little abrasive.
