break in technique
I'm trying a little 'experiment', albeit not too scientific, w/ my car.
I'm trying a 'novel' (ie. abusive!??) way to break in my car.
I just went past 250 miles and they were easy miles.
My plan for the next 250 miles, is to rev the engine to 4K, but w/ moderately fast acceleration.
The next 250 m, the same, but w/ shift pts. @ 5K
the next 250 m, the same, but w/ full rev range, sprinkled in w/ a couple of WOT manuevers.
won't change the oil until 3K miles. won't use synthetic until 6K miles.
I'm testing out a theory that for a fast car, you need to break it in in a 'fast' way. I've met many people who have done this and whom have had extremely good results. Their 1/4 mile times are better than that of magazines (which is usually about as good as it will get due to the fact that manufacturers usually give them the 'ringers' to test, and the mag driver's are usually better than your average schmoe)
Also, consider how race shops break in their new motors. (WOT x 10 min to seat the rings) Also consider that the factory does this (although not as abusive) practice.
That said, what times and trap speeds (more important) have you guys/gals seen w/ your STOCK car? That way, I'll have a benchmark to go by.

don't know but..
i don't know about your expeirement but i think driving into a brick wall will break your car in too..j/p alrite but as far as the synthetic goes, don't use synthetic til 10k miles to b safe. don't put in any of that slick 50, duralube crap til then either, or else you're rings will never seat.
I wouldnt be afraid
to put synth in at 3K...depends on who you ask and who you believe....not saying Mingo is wrong but he may not be right either
Ask 100 people and you'll get a 50/50 response probably...my co-worker put Mobil One in at 1K and his engine actually seems smoother and stronger at 8k than mine does at 2K
Also the shop that I plan on bringing my Max to for service(2 former Master Mechanics at my dealership) say that synth is fine to use after the breakin period..
