Radar Jamming ....any experiences
Hey All,
Since I received a speeding ticket this weekend, and had 3 last year, I'm considering buying a radar jammer since the detectiion doesn't work that well when the radar is "instant on".
Do any of you have any knowledge/experience with these. Do they work well, price, best out there....etc.

yes they ar BS my friend had one and got a ticket for 81 in a 65 i would say they don't work too good save your money and get a V1

yeah jammers are BS. I too was the victim of an instant-ON though, even with my detector. A few tips...
1) Never let yourself be the idiot out front. If you're going to seriously speed (going more than 10 mph over), follow somebody else. I never break 10 over in light traffic unless there's some other idiot to follow so that they get caught. I went about 90-95 for about 60 miles the other weekend following a Corolla and a 530i.
2) If traffic is heavier, "fly low." Try to stay in the lane farthest away from where cops sit. Maryland cops sit on the median and closest to the left lane so I try to stay in the right lane when possible. Everybody wants to go "fast" too so they're always in the middle or left lanes leaving the "slow" lane empty where I can safely go very fast all while the "fast" people (going 66 in a 65) block all the radar and laser over in the other two lanes
3) Realize that no matter how good your detector is, it is not all-seeing and affords you only a certain envelope of detection. Going over any hill crest or any blind turn you are still completely vulnerable to instant-on radar and laser so you have to be careful. Your own eyes are very important too. Always scan the roadway ahead looking for cars pulled over and watch out when you spot something.

I'll admitt I use the slow lane too when passing, whatever lane is free. Of course I'll try the passing lane 1st.
Fact is, most motorists . . . .just . . . .don't . . . . .care Driving to them is some task that gets them from A to B. No further thought is given to it than that. They sit in the fast lane and only decide to notice you waiting behind them. Their rearview mirrors are never adjusted properly. Too many people just thinking of themsleves and not promoting the flow of traffic. I've wasted too much time waiting for people. You drop hints by leaving your indicator blinking and they still don't move.
Now, if I'm taking a corner in the slow lane, I'll slow down b/c of the blindspot, but hey, as far as I'm concerned, whichever lane is free.

This effectively "inverts" the lane scheme and the left two lanes become the "slow" lanes and the right lane (which you would normally consider the "slow" lane) effectively becomes the "fast" lane.Every once in awhile you run into a "legitimate" slow person over on the right, but those are few and far between. It's no different than a slow person blocking up the left lane in a normal "non-inverted" lane scheme

Seriously, I've gotten to stretches up Interstate where you can see for a couple of miles and there are cars solidly in the middle and left lanes all backed up yet there is not a soul in the right lane. Seriously. I've always wished that I had my camera when I see this because it's just hilarious. And I just whiz on by everybody at 80+
Another thing I do is watch the tail lights far ahead of you on the freeway. Usual there is no need for sudden braking on the freeway, so if I see some cars braking then I usually slow down.
I also stay out the fast (far left) lane. Those lanes are really for passing anyway, and if you are just flying down those lanes you are asking for a ticket, because then you could be clocked by a cop meeting you on the opposite side or in a median .

i need a valentine too...
i hate it.... i usually either have to drive faster than every one or go slower than everyone... why? most people are consistent in maintaining a certain speed... i'm not perfect either but i hate it when you get to places where some idiot slow poke driver, make that 2, hog both lanes and are barely cruising at the speed limit... they practically hold up at least 30 cars behind and seem to not know what the f**k is going on. Then there are those crazy souls who when this happens, passes on the right shoulder... i want to go fast but not that eager...
i do sometimes look out for people who drive fast, like 75-80 on a 65, and just tag along... i look for to getting my valentine soon...

interesting article i read on traffic related accidents...not widely publisied however one of the main reason for highway accidents is speed variance. In other words, the difference b/w slow drivers and not so slow drivers...imagine someone doing 80 km/hr (sorry, i'm in Canada) vs. someone doing 120 km/hr (70 mph)... in a perfect world, everyone would cruise along at 70 and the fuzz would be helpless..

Well, with the instant on radar that we have today, and laser, you have to be realistic. I have a V1, and although I have gotten 2 tickets with it, it is still the best defense available against radar.
But then again, I really fly on the highway, usually 80-90 mph regularly. Also, even though I have gotten 2 tickets, the V1 has saved me at least 14 times in the 2 years I've owned, so it has pretty much paid for itself several times over.

Considering some of you guys do enough stuff to your cars that they don't look like the car you bought anymore, you need to be more careful. Use the car ahead of you as a rabbit. Now, in that case, does it really matter if you have a V1 or a $150.00 discount model? I doubt it.
Personally, I'd save the money for gas, or mods.

Little history lesson for ya. Did you know that Mike Valentine, the owner of Valentine1, used to work For Cinncinatti Microwave?? Before they went out of business, They made the 1st legendary Escort radar detector, not the one today. The one that absolutely trounced the competition back in the day. Once Cinncinatti microwave went out of businnes, a private company bought the rights to the name Escort and started selling detectors. The 1st ones were nothing special, but they have evolved and are very good now. That company is the same one today selling the Escort 8500. They are among the top 3 in my book, the V1, Escort 8500 and BEL 980.
I spent $400 in my V1, actually more, b/c I upgraded to the new V1, but I'll happily admitt if it sucks. It does not. It ust rocks. I've taken 2 road trips with it. In the plain states like iowa etc, the sensitivity was un-beleivable. The K40?? That sucks.
You're right about the camouflage effect. I once blew by an MA state trooper doing 100 mph. He didn't even notice me, maybe because at the time I was driving a Minivan!
