2k2 6spd vs. 2k1-2k2 mustang svt cobra
2k2 6spd vs. 2k1-2k2 mustang svt cobra
Yesterday, I had to go help my sister move out of her apartment. On the way home on interstate I-85. BTW I had myself a friend and a trunkload of stuff in my car. I see this brsnd new mustang svt cobra with alaska plates. I speed up next to him and slam on brakes to let him know that I want to play. I was at about his rear tire when I saw him downshift and take off like all hell. So I quickly did the same. We raced up until about 115-120 and he never pulled on me, I stayed next to his rear tire for the entire race. The only time he gained on me was when I shifted to 5th he kept going because I think he must have a taller 4th than me. But anyway after the race i pulled up next to him and gave him the thumbs up. I was overall impressed with the outcome, because I was expecting to get my doors blow off

Yeah on the highway it is easier to keep up with Mustang.
From the light he would kill you pretty bad I think.

But at any rate, I'm still surprised he hung as well as he did too.

yeah the 2003 is a monster but the 01 is only 320 but still if he wanted to smoke you he probably would have walked you little by little

judging by the way his car lunged forward, I would say he was serious. He also kept checking his mirror to see if i was still there. Believe me i thought I was going to get smoked, either there was something wrong with his car or something good wrong with my car. niether one of us pulled on each other at all until i shifted to 5th. and then he took off, cuz he was still pulling in 4th

But Ford lost my SVT vote when they tried to cover it up until a bunch of Snake owners showed dynos to the contrary. Lots of good stuff like RWD INDEPENDANT suspension. That within itself is very nice.
Besides my Max, I also own a '98 Cobra with lots of bolt-ons that ran 13.30's at 105.5 with just gears and exhaust (I haven't run it like it sits with 290 RWHP
). And that was with a crappy 2.1 60' on street tires. I raced several '01's and barely, I mean barely pulled them from a roll. I've seen them running 13.40's @ 103 at the track with paper tags, street tires, and no mods on them.
I believe you hung with him, the 6 speed Max's are pretty darn quick, I test drove a few before I bought mine. I think it's possible that you ran with him at those speeds. A car's 1/4 ET doesn't reflect their 65-120 mph ability (unless it runs low 11's and traps around 120
). So it is possible...

It was probably a 1999 model. They were not producing anywhere near the power they were supposed to. I think they were dynoing around 240 to the wheels. The newer versions are dynoing 270-280 to the wheels stock. This is also mostly upper rmp power. The base 4.6 has more hp up to about 4k rpms. Check out these dynos (bottom left of page) Click on raw data to see actual numbers.
The below car probably had "the Fix" that ford was doing to up the HP of the 99 cobra's (New intake manifold/computer/exhaust)

I drove a 2K1 Cobra 5 speed, that a friend has, and Ive driven 2 6 speeds. I dont know what the "PULL" factor would be at those high speeds, but I do know, on a race from a stop, you will get SMOKED. The problem with the Cobra is putting the power to the ground, but since its RWD, its easier than on a Maxx..Wheelhop, etc..... I know that the gearing ration on his car would affect the race too. I used to have 4.10 gears on my stang, and the pull like a bastard on the street, but you sacrifice highway racing...
Uhhh, I'm gonna call BS
on this one. A 99 Cobra, with the "Fix" will run 13.50's at 103-105 in the 1/4. And with a 7000rpm redline, they are deadly from a roll. He could have worked you if he wanted to. My GT runs 14.1's on street tires all day, and my friend's 01 Cobra whoops my azz from a roll. There's just no way that a car that dyno's 205-215hp can whup a car that dyno's 270-290, especially if you had a "truckload" of stuff in your car, and a friend. Beleve me, I am no hater, I have both, and my wife can hang with my "weak" GT in the Max, and i'm only making 208@the wheels.

My only guess is that it's not a REAL Cobra, unless you're into Mustangs, like you and I , a simple set of tailights, and emblems, can make someone think, I pulled on a Cobra... I second the BS portion...
Actually, I think just the snakes would do it.. how many people whould even know what the wheels look like, maybe if I slap a shopping cart wing on my buddies 2K1 Cobra.. It will be a Cobra R !!

Yeah, true. My neighbor has a 98 GT with the snakes on it, and the Cobra rear bumper cover, and we go to car shows, and even open the hood, and people walk by and go "oohhh a Cobra".

We are barking up the wrong tree trying to compare a Cobra with a Maxima, Cobras have PLENTY of high speed, high rpm breath!!
Heres my take. I had a 96 svt which i sold to my brother in law. few weeks back we kinda raced, as i was behind him. From a light he obviously got the jump as he was ahead of me. There was only one car length difference by end of second with him slightly pulling on me. I had put in basanni x pipe and mufflers and 3.73 gears on this car. I also posted a race recently with a 2000+ gt convertible which i beat by 3/4 car length. Now if i could only get my brotherinlaw to lineup side by side......
aight... think what you want to think, but he had the cobra bumper, svt badge, and the cobra hood. now I don't know much about stang owners, but if one is willing to go that far to make it look like he has a cobra then he deserves to get beat. that is like me throwing skyline badges all over my car. buhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
