Good Question to know: For you 00 & 01 Maximas w/ 2k2 HIDS?
Now I was asked by my cousin that if I install the 2k2 Headlight Assembly, will the insurance pay for them if they are stolen or in a front collison accident, or will the insurance only cover your 2k1 Headlights cost??? anybody know the answer to this?

It all depends on your insurance company. I talked to my insurance company and as long as I have pictures and reciepts, then they will pay for the value of the item. I have USAA insurance. Unfortunately, when everyone was buying the 2k2 lights cheaper, I was also. So I don't know if USAA will pay for what I actually paid, or what one would have to pay to replace. No matter what, I make sure I stop well behind the car infront of me.

I too have USAA.. and I dont want to find out..
this is exactly why I was motivated to throw the HID bolts deal together.. I stood to lose more. I'm not sure if I will be able to afford replacing them if they only give me 2k prices (or what I paid

Well to be perfectly honest with you. NO. If you get into an accident they WILL NOT pay $1200 for a new set of 2k2 when they know it did not come with the car. They will most likely buy/estimate the cost for the 2k-2k1 assembly which is like $300.
Secondly the only way to have it done right is to tell the insurance company up front that you want extra insurance on "after-market" parts you got on your car and they will increase the premium a slight amount. Better that not having them at all after an accident that may not even be your fault.

BigDogJonx makes some good points, but not all true.
Insurance companies will generally pay for the value of the item, not just reimburse you for what you paid. If you buy a stereo and get a great deal, and something happens to it, they'll pay you for the declared or market value of the stereo.
You do have to declare that you want your after-market equipment insured, and yes they will add a small cost to your premium, but I think it's worth it.
I have Farmer's Insurance, and I'm getting all of my aftermarket parts insured soon, so I'll post once I get all the details.
