Messed up my wheels

Hey,
So it was raining today....and to make this story even shorter, the tires lost traction in a left turn and I ran into the curb...HARD!
Scratched up my front passenger corner bumper, my passenger side wheels (BOTH), and my alignment!! I had some doubts before, but these RE92s really do suck!!!
My dad looked at it and said the control arm is messed up now. The wheel is actually hitting the wheel well if I turn right too much.
So I was looking thru the forum to see if there was a chance I could get new wheels, and ran into the control arm recall. I was wondering if this recall will actually cover my messed up one right now.
Also, anyone here have 2002 SE wheels? yeah, I know they're hard to come by.
Should I get new wheels+new tires instead? I like the stock wheels, but since they seem hard to find, I might get something else
I was also wondering if anybody here could tell me what other damage to check for.

Thanks
-Frank

Check the thingy that holds the control arm. I forgot the name but it is the huge circular thing that holds the control arm. Look for even the slightest paint chip coming from that. It is very dangerous (and rare) if this is damaged.

Buy some aftermarkets. It sounds like your tires suck anyhow.

I'm no help w/ the recall... BUT

As far a whether you should purchase 2k2 SE replacement wheels. I say H*ll no!! I love my wheels, don't get me wrong. But the tire selection is very limited on our stock size and there are just too many aftermarket wheels crying out there that would make your Max turn a few more heads!! Centerline RPM's and O.Z Opera's are just two that come to mind. Coincidently, they're what I'm deciding on...

Good luck!

Make sure....

you try to have the repair facility 'total' your tires on the side impacted. Then, use the insurance coverage to try to get you something safer than those death donut RE-92's.

What does "totalling" your tires mean?

Basically having the shop say something like a side impact probably threw a belt inside the tire... maybe some scuffing, etc on the sidewall could lead to a weak spot and potential blowuot conditions...pretty much anything they can come up with to justify not putting them back on your car...

not sure if they will be forced to (by insurance co) replace with the exact same tires, but heck, it is worth a try to get them replaced...
