Actually I just replaced mine with an aftermarket 8" sub and the guy at the stereo shop said the bose is an "oversized 6.5" -- in between a 6.5 and an 8.

According to Nissan and Dixit, its an 8" woofer .

Thats what I thought, the oversized 6.5 would be in the door

Here's a pic of the Bose sub that came out of my car.

Its 6.5" from actual speaker edge to speaker edge and 8" from one edge of the entire unit to the other. I don't know how the size is actually determined on a speaker.

The 8" they put in my car seemed a little bigger.

Hope this helps.

BTW, anybody want to take a Bose sub off my hands?

What did you replace it with exactly. Did you keep the head unit and amp stock?

Yes, I kept the Bose head unit. The bose sub has a built in amp so I had to add a seperate amp. The main problem with the Bose sub is that it doesn't have enough power behind it. I posted a full write up of what I just did to "mod" my Bose system. See the following thread--It should be about the 7th post in that thread. Pics are included.

Sheesh!!!

I was going by what Nissan told me, haha. The bose sub sounds good but an aftermarket sub would do much better

So you had to have a sealed box mounted under the deck. Does it take up a lot of trunk space, or make large things difficulte to put into the trunk? What about using a free air sub, was that a possibility? I am almost thinking of just removing the sub and that hole would be used for a port between the trunk and the car. Maybe put a single 10 in a sealed box.

Sweet set-up. How big a difference is there?

We actually tried to use the new sub in a free-air set-up and it sounded like crap and fried an amplifier. You really need to use a speaker designed to used as a free-air.

Using the existing hole as a port for a sub box was what they reccommended first but I didn't like the idea of something sitting on the floor of my trunk and wasting a lot of space. So we came up with the current solution. I hardly even notice its there with the setup I have now.

Pretty noticeable difference. Now there is actually some seperation between the highs and lows instead of it all being just mids. I don't like a ton of bass so I barely have the gain on the amp turned on--plenty of power in reserve. The new tweeters also make a big difference.
