Does anybody have the same performance problem?

I want to make this as short as possible. When under any throttle right at about 4k rpm, i get a hesitation almost like a missfire. I know the variable intake isn't opening untill at least 5k, so i know its not just a sticking VIAS. Anybody have any coil problems?

Yeah, mine too. The altima does the same thing. I think it's the variable valve thingy switching over. I think it's part of the tech of the engine.

I have a 5-spd. I have only noticed it since I have gone over 55k miles. it does it more at lower throttle applications. I also have a 2k so a little diff. engine. I also notice it more around 3,800 to 4,500.

and damn.......when its over 90 degrees, this thing feels really slow.

Is yours an early 2K or a late 2K build? The earlier 2K's had defective ignition coils. My 2K's build date is 6/99 and by 48K miles I started to have issues with acceleration and knocking. New coils fixed that problem.

Mine was built in 4/99. so I must have a really early one. what exactly did it feel like when they went bad. I am a ford guy at a dealership. They apparently react quite a bit different when the coils go bad. And did you get a SES light when they went bad?

Re: Does anybody have the same performance problem?

just to confirm it is not a VIAS problem....I would do a DIY diagnostic.

The first thing I noticed was that I would get spark knock even when using premium fuel. At first I thought it was a bad Y-pipe because it started happening after I installed one. It would happen more often at part throttle then go away but with a power loss (timing retard?). High RPM would feel very weak, like the power was dropping off. Then I tried changing the plugs, still no difference. Finally after reading enough about other people's experiences here on the .org I decided to change out the coils. Cost me $250 because I got sick of the dealer charging for diagnostics and not finding the problem but at least it's been running smooth ever since. Never got a SES light before or after the swap.

so how would you describe the difference from before and after. Just so i can get an idea of what to expect when (if) i replace the coils.

Thanks
