Racing pointers...

Ok - I just got back from a local street racing event. Its the first time I race my Max (2k2 6spd, no HLSD) and I raced an M3 (2000?). Bottom line is I spun all of 1st and most of 2nd, meanwhile he was pulling away and I didn't have room to catch up.

Being the rookie that I am, I need to ask if anyone has any pointers on getting a good launch? I'll admit, I did the rev & pop method and that proved to leave me doing nothing more than spinning.

Is HLSD an installable option? What would I be looking at for cost? What would be some other options for traction?

I have been told the HLSD is not an installable option, or at least the dealership isn't willing to do it. No one knows if it bolts up to the transmission or if its in the tranny case. At any rate you would likely get a better 60' time if you "slip" the clutch instead of popping it but this can severly shorten clutch life over time. You could also get some dedicated race tires to bolt on when you're ready to race and let alittle air out so the sidewalls will flex more, wich will give you more contact area. Also it would help to get some adjustable shocks and set them as firmly as possible so there will be less squat during 1st gear.

If the HLSD is anything at all like the VLSD that Nissan has used in the past you'll have to get a new trasmission cover because the bearing race on the left side is a much larger side to accomodate the limited slip.

This new one could be different and if you really want to know all you have to do is go to the parts department and get them to show you the parts difference between the RS6F51H and RS6F51A.
