1/4 mile times @ Hawaii Raceway Park

First off let me say this, it was drizzling out so the track was wet but still open. I am not happy at all with my times. I need more practice.

1st run
Me-left side(5th gen GXE 5speed, intake, exhaust, Y-pipe,
Modas 18x8 235/40/18 Kumo ecsta supras 36psi front 40 psi rear)
Vs.
Ford Mustang unknown model new body style (intake & exhaust)

.949 Reaction 1.099
2.777 60FT 2.563
10.562 1/8 ET 11.421
71.96 1/8 MPH 61.63
15.975 1/4 ET 17.755
90.69 1/4 MPH 78.10

I won by an amazing 1.929sec! I have the video and have to wait to get it from a friend.

2nd Run
4th Gen Maxima white SE (looked stock except sound of intake)
Vs.
Me-Right side(5th gen GXE 5speed, intake, exhaust, Y-pipe,
Modas 18x8 235/40/18 Kumo ecsta supras 36psi front 40 psi rear)

.530 Reaction 1.148
2.491 60FT 2.514
10.863 1/8 ET 9.994
65.10 1/8 MPH 73.03
16.872 1/4 ET 15.334
80.36 1/4 MPH 94.36

I won by .919sec.

3rd run
Dodge Stratus (intake, exhaust, headers, rims, ignition thats all I could see)
Vs.
Me-Right Side

.642 Reaction .504
2.856 60FT 2.691
11.471 1/8 ET 10.331
62.94 1/8 MPH 72.21
17.770 1/4 ET 15.726
78.00 1/4 MPH 93.14
I won by 2.182sec

As you can see I only got 15's and 15.334 is my best time with a bad reaction time. That 4th gen thought he had me, but I caught him. I think we all had trouble hooking up first at any rpm. 14's are real close if I didn't slack gas from the 30ft mark on the 3rd run I would have hit 14's too I think. At least I never lost. I was getting better times than boosted GTI's at the track. Until next time. Oh yeah videos should be up by monday.

your car is capable of breaking 14's i think. Lower those 60fts and you'll be in the 14's hopefully.

Why were you running your tire pressure at 36 PSI??? You should have let air out to about 28 PSI. With some better 60' times you should be in the 14s.

I was so excited to go on the track I forgot to let the air out before I ran. It was just so hard to not spin first entirely with the ground wet and all.

it would be tough for him to lower his 60s on this track....the track here on oahu is a total joke...about half a second slower than maui.

i ran 15.3@92 with a 2.5 60 in my stock 00 SE with 17s. i had only driven the car for 3 days so i wasnt used to launching FWD.

but the track here does suck so those are 14 second runs on maui.
for proof...my truck ran a 16.8@80 on maui.....and a 17.3@75 over here.

i should be going to the track next week....maybe ill see some ppl down there.

Let me know when you go I'll line up with you. With that time you beat me. But remember it was drizzling man.

I met a 2001 Auto CL-S (comptech edition) owner today. He has comptech headers, and a few suspension mods. He wants to run me on Saturday and got SSR racing rims today @ about 14 pounds. He ran his car at tracks and got a 14 something with all his mods and stock rims with toyo proxies. I am curious how I will do, but I know for a fact that I am going to stock tires for that race. I will report on Sunday night how I do. He is a member of a forum called cls.org or something like that.

Couple of things you may want to consider:

Trying a 15" rim for better gearing and acceleration
Air down the tires (don't forget a compressor or air tank so you can air them back up for the drive home)
Lighten up the car
Adjust staging and timing at the lights. Don't be afraid to red light a couple of times... it's only practice.
Try staging shallow, and get familiar with your car's reaction at the line.
Play with launch RPM.
And equally important... keep a notebook or journal of each change and the results so you know what you did when times start to drop. Change only one thing at a time so you eliminate as many extraneous variables as possible.

Hope this helps,

Haven't been to the track in awhile, but it's much, much better than it used to be. 15 years ago, the thing was almost 4WD territory!

Now that the track is getting much more use from the Drift Sessions and increased interest in the Pro Import scene and increased use from the SCCA, HHRA, etc... maybe they will get the funding to take better care of it.

Aloha,

you should run 14.8-14.9...

...once you learn how to launch.
2.5-2.6sec 60' is horrible (im sure you know that).
get that down to a 2.2 and you'll be in the 14's.

tire pressure means nothing if you can drive.
i ran consistent 14.9's 100% stock on 18" rims w/ 45psi tire pressure.

Uh MY 4DSC could you read my post again. I said it was raining at the track. Impossible to hook up in first at all. That would be the reason for bad 60ft times. 15.3 on a wet track I think is pretty good. A supercharged 4th gen was only getting 14's on this night mind you.

Not flaming - just want to make sure you know your reaction time is not factored in to your e.t. It will make a difference in how much you win by. So, just because your e.t. is 2 seconds faster (for ex) than someone else, doesn't mean you won by 2 seconds. You could have won by 4 or by .1 - depending on the reaction times.

You mean it rains in Honolulu? I thought only us people in Hilo get rain. Anyhow, congrat's man. Although it may not be your best time, practice makes perfect. IMHO, tire pressure does make a difference. Maybe not a hole lot. I used to have a '91 SE-R w/80hp NOS and used to have to drop tire pressure to about 23psi or so to get decent traction. If you go too low, the tire starts to spin on the rim and that's not good.

Another trick I learned from John Davis (a SE-R nut) was to use spring spacers/separators in the back. This REALLY stiffened up the suspension so that the back doesn't squat when you nail it. use the metal ones, not the rubber square things. Just don't be like me and drive to the track with them on - it was a kidney killin' ride!!

Yes I know its not factored in your 1/4 mile time. I was just pointing out how I improved on my reaction time in just a few runs. The posted times for margin of win was on my timeslip so I figured I should post them.

Heh... yeah, it rains, it just doesn't rain out by HRP too much. And nowhere near as much rain as Hilo. Every time I've gone out there, it's always rained on me...

If you go too low, the tire starts to spin on the rim and that's not good.
Beadlocks?

A good idea, but I was using street tires P-Zero's so that was out.
