If you have the patience and energy, you need to talk to Nissan about that. It will take a LOT of time, but eventually they will repaint it. It depends on your ability to wait a very long time and deal with a lot of BS though. Me, I love my Magnetbra! It's much better than when I was just strapping down my girlfriend's to the hood, and people were laughing at me. I thought Majestic Blue was a good color? What's the deal?

Talk to Nissan, sometimes it works...

Man, that's just plain wrong. On my Max after 5000 km the edge of the rear wheel arches (where they meet the rear doors) looked like they had been sand blasted (pits and chips all over the place). The dealer said it was due to misaligned rear doors and repainted the rear quarter panels for me (under warranty). If you complain enough you should be able to get them to fix that hood. Unless you live on a gravel road you should never see that much damage on such a young car.

Unfortunately you'll probably have to get a bug deflector for the future. Personally, I just broke down and got one after complaining one last time. My bumper is still taking lots of damage but at least it won't rust from the chips.

It don't help! I tried and plus what do you use to protect the other parts of your car that get sand blasted? For example: lower part of front bumper, lower part behind rear door, lower section of rear&front door, under rear clear marker. I belive this paint sucks thats all there is too it and it is most noticable on a black car too.

Woah... how did yours get like that?! My neighbors have a 2001 Grey Lustre and his paint is NOTHING like yours... he has 1 big one, the width of a pencil and about 1 inch long, and 3-5 small chips like what you have. I barely have any chips either..

It has looked like this and is just getting worse since 3 months after I bought it. The hood, bumper, wheel arches, window pillers are all chipped. I don't live on a gravel road and wax and wash the car all the time. I stopped waxing lately as I am so pi$$ed the paint looks so bad.

Maybe the grey lustre is a little better? I've got a 2K grey lustre and I've got one decent sided chip and a couple smaller ones, but other than that, mine looks really good. Any others?

Ya after 6 months I have touched up about 8 chips. One of which, on the top rear edge of the rear passanger door, started to rust. I love this car, but I would have to jump on the bandwagin for this. The paint is terrible. My Accord though was a close second. I think the whole time I had my black Firebird Formula I fixed 5 chips.

It's a shame... The paint in my departed 1993 Escort was more resilient than the Maxima's.

Icelandic White Pearl holds up like a champ.

My 2000 has 32,000 miles and after nearly 2 yrs still looks great.
I have maybe 3 TINY chips from stones that arent even noticeably.
I think thats actually better than average, considering...

Hood

I have some little chips but they're not noticable due to the beautiful color I have.. hehehe
The hood bra helps a lot, and I don't leave my house for long trips without it.

Do you have mud guards? They help a lot to reduce the sandblasting along the bottom of the doors and under ther rear marker. The part behind the rear door still gets hammered though. I've had to cover this part and the lower corner of the rear door with 3M clearbra material to protect it.

Oh the paint more than sucks, it's horrible. And unfortunately from looking at the local Max's the Majestic Blue I have seems to be the worse of all.

I swear it must be a White Paint thing. My Old 4th Gen that was white had 2 chips; and that was it. My 5th gen has barely, so I guess white is better. I heard somewhere that white doesnt soak up as much heat therefore not being as soft as dark colored paint?

I have a 2K2 in Majestic Blue, and haven't really noticed any chipping. My solution? I am using the magnetbra on the hood, and about 4-5 coats of Klasse on the bumper and mirrors. Works so far!

Is there any way to get it re-painted at a REAL autobody shop, the kind that actually puts paint in the sprayer and get nissan to pick up the tab. I get the feeling if they repaint it, its gonna be the same thin c r a p we have now.

I don't have a bug deflector. I have the original Nissan leather front end cover (bra), but I only use the hood piece.

while we are on the topic of bugs...

What has everyone found to be the easiest way to remove all of the bugs off of the front of the car? I have tried regular car wash and water, but the reminants are still left over.

I have a 2001 Superblack GXE with 17,000 miles...same problem

Seriously, the best hing to do is just get a Magnetbra...it's about as invisible as you can get for the front of the hood. Otherwise, I was honestly considering a carbon fiber hood...only a couple hundred dollars more for a fully finished new hood INNSTEAD of repainting my stocker. It wouldn't look too bad either against the black paint.

...but for the long term just get the Magnetbra...it' covers 95% of my existing paint chips and should protect that same area for the life of the car OR bra, whichever ends first

When we are talking about the back door, what area are you guys talking about? If we can focus on one area, I can make sure to put some 3m on it. Can someone post a pic, or a whole car pic with an area circled, or just describe where you're talking about? thanks a lot!

I have a 2000 black se and have the same problem. I got the car painted one year ago this week and now it looks just like it did before I got it repainted. It was painted at an independent paint shop. Nissan covered the cost of painting below the moldings. 30000 km later the paint is chipped off the front bumper like it was shot with a shot gun and the arches behind the back doors look like they were sandblasted. My step mother has a majestic blue 2001 and drives the same roads as I do and dosn't have near as many chips as my car. I love my Maxima but with the poor paint I can't wait to get rid of it. By the way I have mud guards and a hood deflector.

How does the area behind the rear door get so many chips? Are you guys talking about in the door well itself? The area facing the front of the car? If so, seems hard to get rocks in there...

Diamond blast tested, my

A$$$$$ .... I have sunlit sand which kinda hides some of the chips, until you get close. Then it looks like the paint played dodgeball with the oncoming projectile.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE METAL.......NISSAN CAN YOU HEAR MEEEEEE!

sorry guys, did we get anywhere with the paint thread????

turbo dreams + Nissan paid BMW metallic Blue

On my Sterling Mist I have about 7 chips on my hood. I touched them up with touch-up paint because the chips were down to the metal and were starting to rust! The touch-up paint actually makes the chips more noticable but at least they are not rust color.

I put a 3M clear bra on the hood and I wish I would have done it sooner. The only bad thing is I still got two chips recently ABOVE where the clear bra stops!

I hate this paint too.
