First race with my 2k2

just had to post this cause its the first opportunity i've had to race someone. i was at a stoplight in the left lane, (2 lane road) and a guy in a 01?? dodge ram came up as the light turned green, so he was already goin about 25 or so. i heard the V8 roar from behind me as i rolled on the gas (i have an auto tranny) and he pulled up next to me as my pedal hit the floor. then it was bye-bye ram! haha it was not much of a race after that, as i had a couple car lenghts on him by the time we hit 65 or so. it was fun however.

True...

my '97 Ram with FIPK and Gibson exhaust sounds pretty mean even when not trying too hard. Never have been too thrilled with the noise level, but it does help breathing for towing and hauling.

And....if he was actually trying to race, he needs therapy!!

Had a guy do pretty much the same thing in a Ford F250~!

We were side-by-side waiting for the light as I pulled out moderately paced and was shifting to 2nd at ~3500rpms, he goes blowing by at WOT. So, I mashed the gas in 2nd just behind his bumper(my rpms were way too low!) and as I shifted to third, I had pulled 3/4 infront of him.

Let's just say after that it was over. He tried to catch up after I let off, but a quick down shift to 3rd made him back down after that.

Haha! Pick-ups are a joke for racing. When my old Buick's transmission died, I had to live with driving my dad's Explorer...that thing was a dog. Clocked it 0-60 in about 9.8 seconds. Even so, it was fun to surprise the riced-out Civic who had a little too much junk on his car . I beat a V-6 Mustang from a 20 MPH punch roll too...that was my best win . The odd thing about that thing was it was very slow off the line. The V-6 didn't have enough torque to get the thing moving quickly, but once it hit about 5K RPMs it actually started accelerating pretty quickly...too bad the fuel shutoff is at 6k.

you just have to watch which ones you are encountering.

Obvious exceptions are the supercharged F150's (whichever design), but so too are some of the newer high hp GM's, the Dodge V10's lurking out there, and even some of the diesels. Some of the above are great at getting off a stop, some are pretty good (surprisingly) at highway speeds. And, for truck engines, they have a crudload of aftermarket support so you really never know what is under that hood.

I remember someone raced an SVT F150...turned out to be a sad story with a sad ending.

I'm aware of the Lightning's potential. A truck that can run high 13s stock (I think) is very impressive. Still, as much as do to it, it's still a pick-up and the question still remainds to be asked, if you do that much work to a pick-up, why not just a buy a Mustang Cobra...? I enjoy pick-ups myself, I am a Texan for crying out loud, but they're for hauling boats and tools, not ***. The torque from a truck engine is pretty impressive though .

Not always.

Besides the OBVIOUS Ford Lighting and some turbo diesels with chips, I actually lost to a Dodge Ram that pulled a 15.5 1/4-mile. I don't know what he had done, but it wasn't a turbo diesel.

A lot of 5.2/5.9L Dakotas were running high 13s to mid 14s, plus a 4x2 V6 Tacoma xtra cab(non-prerunner) with nitrous was running 13s.

As you should know since you drive a Maxima, don't judge a book by it's cover or its tailgate.

the majority of trucks are less $$$ than the Cobra, even the Lightning. If a person wants to haul lumber and a$$, why not? I defy you to have a tailgate party in a Cobra, carry a large breed dog comfortably in a Cobra, bring home firewood, mulch, etc. in a Cobra, and so on.

Short end of the story is that some people want their fun and function ALL in one package...just look out, they may haul boats and tools, but they may just hand you your a$$ as well.

Ok guys sorry I said that. I used to actually believe trucks were fast, but got slammed by car people saying trucks were slow . I changed my views, but I have seen them getting very quick now. Seems to me like the diesels should be the quickest with all the horsepower and torque they make. I guess it's due to their gearing and their very small engine range. In a straight line trucks can be danerous but i'll just take the race to the mountains. I'd like to see a full-size pick-up keep up with a car around corners . The Lightning could though. That little sucker is an amazing piece of work.
