Recent graduate to 5th gen! What should I look for?
Recent graduate to 5th gen! What should I look for?
I just traded my 1996 SE with 92,000 miles for a 2000 SE with 35,500 miles. I've now graduated to the 5th gen from the 4th.
I've been trying to read about all of the TSBs and any other important info. As you can see by my mileage, I have very few miles to go before the 36,000 mile warranty is up. Any advice from experienced 5th gen owners? Is there anything in particular I should check out to see if I should have warranty work done?
Any advice would be appreciated ASAP, since I will probably be out of the 36,000 mile warranty within a week or two.
My car is a 5-spd SE, all options except the heated seats/mirrors & side air bags.
It has leather, Bose, auto climate control, everything else.
The two main TSBs that I saw were the ECU reprogram and rotor problems leading to brake vibration. Anything else?

welcome to the 5th gen!!
Congrats bro, welcome to 5th gen! There are a whole list of TSB's available for 5th gen Max, but the 2000 Maxima currently has no official recalls. Remember, a TSB is NOT a recall, it is a service bulletin that recommends a standard course of action for dealership service departments when these somewhat common problems occur. A TSB doesn't necessarily mean you will have those problems, the best thing to do may be to go to a Nissan service manager you really trust, ask him for a free service inspection and promise him that if he treats you right, you will be a back many, many times in the future to give him your business... Any service manager with a brain will give you an honest service inspection to let you know what services you need done before your warranty runs out. Remember, a service dept. gets paid by Nissan when they do warranty work, even if you don't pay a dime!

Since you have read the TSB's, this may be redundant, but pay attention to the coil issue and the fuel cut issue.

I have noticed a bit of hesitation/jerkiness when taking off in 1st gear as compared to my '96. I thought it might just be me getting used to a different clutch, but it sounds like it could be the fuel cut issue.

The fuel cut issue would be resolved by the ECU reprogram, correct?
