Slight hesitation

We have a new '02 max and there is a slight hesistation on medium to hard accelleration. The car has 2000 miles, but this has been apparent since day one. It only became a bit bothersome after break-in when we started goosing it!

Anyone know what this is? It sort of hesitates then takes off! Its not a huge problem, but definitely noticeable.

Its a known problem, by people on the .Org at least. Take it to your dealer and see what they say, because we have yet to see a fix for it...

doesn't have to do anything with the auto tranny.

its the drive by wire system, the gas pedal is connected to the computer on the new 2k2/2k3 maxes. the olds ones are just a stright cable. so i guess it takes time for the computer to process the imediate acceleration

Drive by wire is what makes it quicker - it was supposed to be a fix to the lag seen in the 2k1's. The lag is from the car's auto tranny computer. The same lag is noted when manual shifting the auto tranny. try it if you dont believe me, there is a second or so lag when upshifting/downshifting. This is why autoshifting for better 1/4 mile times isnt a good idea, because the tranny in auto mode is actually quicker then involving the computer during manual shift mode.

i know that, but off the line, 2k2 max will have a lag and a 2k1 max won't. when you floor a 2k1 pedal there is no lag, but with the drive by wire system when you floor it from a stop it will hesitate.

hesitiation confirmed by dealer

hey guys...I started what I think was the first thread on this several months ago (search for "hesitation"). It applies to both auto and manual and only the 02's, but maybe the 03's by now (I had an 01 and this problem wasn't there). Also, I have a Sentra SER spec V with the same DBW throttle and this problem doesn't exist so I don't attribute it to that. I took my car in today for the transverse link recall and mentioned it to the service guy. He's like "...oh yeah, I haven't driven an 02 that doesn't have that...it's the ECM...". I went on to ask him if he knows whether Nissan has a fix for it and he says I'm the first one that has complained and that I was welcome to call Nissan (sort of a jerk about it by then in the way he reacted). I told him my 01 didn't do it and I don't like it. But he had no response other than saying every 02 he's driven does it. So I guess it is a "built-in" flaw that not enough people have complained about yet. Soooo...get on the phone to Nissan and start wearing them out. I plan to.

But again, he confirmed it, described the sensation precisely. So, I guess we are on our own!!!

I took my new 2k2 in 2 days after I bought it (last week) and got a ride-a-long with the service manager. He told me it was normal and I shouldn't worry about it. He also said the same that every 2k2 has the same problem.

Re: hesitiation confirmed by dealer

Sorry man not to steal your thunder or anything, but I started b!tching about this one back in Jan just after getting the car.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ght=hesitation

But in the end we are all stuck with it as of yet. I have an open ticket with Nissan and the tech at the dealer did feel it. I called last week to follow up with her and she was on vacation. I have meant to call this week, but just haven't had the chance.

Hesitiation ...

If I'm not wrong, I recall reading some comments from people with 2k2's and custom intakes (Franken, Stillen...) indicating that the hesitation was gone... Can anybody with custom intake confirm it?

To tell you the truth, it used to bother me alot but lately I haven't even noticed it.
