reason I'm asking is that I think I got into my first drag race with my Max tonight You local MA guys might know where the Liberty Tree Mall is.....I passed this guy in a red ragtop on the inside and a little farther up pulled in front of him at the next light. Well he switches lanes and pulls up next to me....didn't think to much of it...

Light turns green and this guy floors it and smokes his tires like crazy...scared the crap out of me actually I think out of sheer reflexes I punched the Max...heh...To be honest I was a little bummed...my Max is an auto and I actually felt like the car was lagging a little bit...He actually got maybe 3/4 to a car length on me off the line that I quickly made up and maybe put a length on him before my 36 year old "wtf are you doing on a main street in front of a mall" mentality kicked in. I got off the gas and he went zooming way in front of me....maybe he though the same thing as he quickly slowed down behind a car...I pulled alongside and he wouldnt even look at me...oh well...

I by no means am a street racer and really have never raced anyone else before(except for my 87 Accord against a 911..I think he waited 2 minutes at the next light before I caught up heh ) I really felt like I should have absolutely left him in the dust but he seemed never to be less than right off my bumper...of course I bailed at maybe 60...if I had hung in would there have been no contest? (Not that I'm planning on doing that anytime soon again) Just curious.....Was starting up a little incline(light before a highway overpass) Should it have been that close and why did I feel so lethargic? I'm guess he had a 6.....the only Chrysler ragtop I could see with a 6 in a Lebaron...oh and this car was stock...no souped up ragtop...guy looked like a middle age clown like me

Oh my god! How embarrassing for you, A Chysler? You got beat by a Chrysler I'd even take a Hyundia over a Chrysler...Sorry couldn't resist!
It couldn't have been more then a 6 banger and there's no way in hell it had 222 HP. Let's just say he got Really lucky!

Now, now...lets not start any rumors here .....I was ahead of him when I got off the gas....my concern was why was it even a contest? Granted he did get a jump on me but that was short lived

I was a little concerned as I never really got that pin you in the back of you seat feeling you usually get when you floor the Max doing about 30 or so.....off the line I felt like I was in 2nd from a dead stop....I know if I had a stick it would have been a massive joke........

Man I miss driving a stick

its simply the physics of him

getting the jump on you... 1/2 second can make a HUGE diff.. its not a contest if you werent prepared. Plus, if you hit the gas some, then punch it, you wont accel as fast as just nailing right off. you will lag if you give it gas slowly then floor it.

FYI,

If you raced again the newer model like the Chrysler Sebring
It had a 3.5L 24V V6 under the hood good for 215HP.
There!

What year range/generation was it?

Current Sebring convertibles are flat-out anemic. They all have 2.5L 170HP V6. If an older LeBaron, it could have a turbocharged engine stock. If you saw the threads with the superfast minivans, it could have _that_ engine.
A quick browse on my shelf shows that the LeBaron from 1990 had a nifty turbo engine using variable vane technology (GTC trim). 174HP, 210ft-lb. Raising boost is child's play on those Mitsu engines. Interestingly enough, Mitsu pulled that VV turbo design, though it proved to be very successful. 91+ Lebarons had a lesser turbo motor available. 152HP, 210Ftlb

I'm pretty sure thats what I did (gave it a little gas and then nailed it) like I said above, I never got that slam you into the seat feeling...just felt like a steady acceleration. I'm saying to myself "wtf...I know this car has better pickup"

I know it wasn't a new ragtop like a Sebring....squarer corners like a LeBaron...whatever it was it had enough power to make the engine really roar and spin his tires a bit...my guess it was 95 Lebaron with the 2.5 Mitsi engine in it.....

You won't really get the pinned in the seat

feeling from launching a Max, even the 5-speed one.
Now if you were driving M5, that's another story..

I drove my friends 540i 6-speed and after each shift it would pin you in your seat , very nice feeling.

yeah yesterday I was driving home, and on light next to me brand new Camero SS, with aftermarket exhaust dronning.

Lite turns green and I like what the heck, let me see how my Max can hang with him. So, I floor the first gear, he noticed that I am flooring it and he floors too, now we are side by side through the first gear, now comes the second gear shift and he started to pull away. it was over from that point on.

If you'd have kept your foot down you'd have easily won b/c his engine would've thrown a rod. I used to have Chryslers for company cars and they seemed to have a habit of blowing engines and tranny when I drove em? The 6 cylinder chryslers has some punch until about 3000 rpm when they begin to starve for air. The Dodge Dynasty was the same way and so is the Concorde, etc... Us 5 speeders will handle him for you

trade your car man!

if i was you, i would trade in my car for a stick. if you like racing, the 2k stick can make lots of car look like **** out there. i have raced a m3 and prelude from a green light to stop light and guess what??????We pulled off at the same time and i was at the stop light parked up and waiting for them. They pulled up next to me and started steering at my max, like they wanna fight or something, because i won...so far only a camaro had whipped me...believe it......

deven, if it was only that easy...i wanted a stick since before i bought this car, but i also wanted leather, heated seats, side airbags, and all the other goodies...i couldn't find any maxima se stick's FULLY loaded...i couldn't even find one in a color i didn't want (i wanted super black, silver, the lighter black color, and white)...i'm not a big fan of gold or green cars)...i didn't like the blue too much and the red is alright, just kinda rare...IF my dealer could find a 2k or 2001 stick fully loaded, they told me i would be looking at trading in my car (now w/ 11000 miles on it) and paying about $8000-10000. This sounded rediculous...they said if i wanted to change it from an auto to a stick and keep the same car, it would cost about $8000 for the new tranny and pedals and all the other changes...if anyone out there has a 2k stick fully loaded, i have a 2000 se auto w/ mods and i am willing to trade + pay...my car's sticker price was 29,100 i think and if i remember correctly, before taxes and licensing, i got it for about 25,500...(i think it ended up being $1000 below invoice...yes, we ripped the dealer off...they actually lost money on this sale)...a 2000 stick is $500 cheaper fully loaded...at first, they said for the trade in they would give me $24,000...i was thinking i would have to pay $2000-2500 (i was not willing to pay more)...since my car is in perfect shape (and i can get the springs removed and everything brought back to stock for about $100 and a few hours of my own labor) they can probably sell it for about $25000...the salesman said IF they could find the car i wanted, they would not be able to discount off the sticker price and i would be looking at paying a minimum of about $6000...(WTF?) sticker on a fully loaded stick is 28,600 and they said 24000 for my trade in...even if i paid the sticker price...28600-24000=4600 (still too high)...but they should discount the sticker price...i thought my car (perfect condition at that point it only had under 5000 miles) + $2500 would be fair to them and they would make money...what i'm saying is that trading it in for a stick is not easy and it is really costly

if anyone is still willing to trade in their fully loaded stick max for my fully loaded auto max (i can leave the mods on if you want) and pay you money...i am willing to do that...please email me at MrBurner@Flashcom.net if you have one that you are willing to trade...i know to some of you that this sounds crazy, but there are lots of people that like autos better because of lots of city driving
