5th gen max, shortest lifespan???
Guys i just needed to ask..... is the 5th gen max the shortest running max generation. 2000-2003. Thats realy short, how will that affect resale, i remember seeing a 2000 max for like 11 grand, with 56,000 miles on it. Im thinkin thats a super low price seeing there are still some 99 maximas runnin for that price!!! Im hearing on other threads that the maxima will be 29,000 base price!!! Im thinking majority of us(depending on finances)will look to other cars in the future to satisfy our (nissan)4dsc crave. mabey g35 or altima.

Here's my theory... The 2K2 and 2K3 5th Gen MT SE's will become very desirable. Values are low now, but they will increase!! Why, you ask? Consider this: They have the 3.5 and a 6 speed. The first Maximas to have that and they were only made for those 2 years. And the MT SE was a very small percent of the total production.
Now this all hinges on the popularity of the 2004 Max. If it is a 'flop', people may be scrambling to get the 5 Gen. It may turn out to be the best value for Nissan's 4DSC (3rd and 4th Gen owners will scoff at this, but, oh well) And because of the relatively few MT SE's, the value will skyrocket (supply and demand).
No flames, please...probably wishfull thinking on my part, (mainly cuz I have a 2K2 6 speed!) but hey...It could happen!!

I think you are right about the value of the 2k2-3 6 speeds. Look at the 3rd gen SE 5 speeds. Those cars are in demand (when they are in good condition). They are also hard to find and I think the 5 speeds were a greater percent of the production then. (I'm guessing).

Great !! But a tranny swap ?? I thought they were the same !! (I have an auto)....kinda wondering, is it possible to change the accelerator to the drive-by-wire system.

The 2k2 and 2k3 6 speeds are going to be popular 10 years from now. Just look at the 3rd gen, Nissan put the VE engine in them in 92,93 and 94 SE's only! and people still ****** them up when they can.

i was thinking, its kinda bad when you buy a new car and before you get a chance to really show it off, a new model comes out... Its kinda like cell phones. I bought my new phone a couple of months ago and before i could even show off with it, i see some kids running around with phones with colored screens and all kindsa neat junk. is there any word on aftermarket parts by NISMO in america yet. I remember hearing about it a few months ago but then the topic just disapeared... any word of nismo parts for any american nissan.

I think that Nissan did the right thing by cutting 5th gen off. They have to be more competitive compared to Honda and Toyota cars, and be able to come up with better product more often. When the 6th gen will come out, it will be more expensive, and it will be in ppls' minds that Maxima is expensive, so demand for used Maximas should rise, and we are going to see a slight increase on the resale value. The ones who will suffer here the most are new 6th gen owners. Having spent 30Gs on a car that will cost 20G's in a year...

What about the more popular Mercedes E class and S class?? They have shorter lifetimes, too. Much shorter than 12 years.

I bet 2002 has same or better acceleration and better reliability. So I still think 2002-2003 6 speed SE can have great future value and still be an attractive alternative to the 2004.

It's a simple fact of life that most people would prefer to buy an auto version of a car for various reasons and will pay more for it. I like shifting my own gears as much as the next guy, but I think those are the simple facts.

Yes, but manuals are becoming more and more rare. Autos are a dime a dozen. The demand for manuals is not great, especially when compared to autos, but the supply of manual trannies has trickled down to be less than demand these days.

In an enthusiasts forum such as the org, sure, the 6 speed will be desired and sought after as have the 5 speed 4th gens, but in the "regular world" where 90% of the people that buy these cars buy them for transportation, the autos will be more desireable now and in 10 years. I owned manuals in a Mustang and a pair of Accords and the values on those cars was less than comparable auto versions.

I just think the 5th gen will be more desirable because it is better looking. Who wants to drive the 2004? They butchered it. I'd fire all the designers because that car looks like a P.O.S. And yeah the 5th gen lifespan is way too short to be introducing a new model...
