245/45 18's !!!
Those are pretty big tires on the 2k4, plus the 320 Watt 8-spkr Bose. Looks like Nissan went gung-ho on the new Max.
Apparently, they are still pushing the 4DSC concept as the car was introduced at the Detroit show accompanied by a power-sliding/engine howling/brake squealing video of a Max. So take heart fickle ones, the new Max may yet surprise.

What it's not equal to is 3400

A bare-bones SE 6MT should still weigh in at under 3400lb. About 3370lb by my estimations, roughly 150lb heavier than a 5th Gen.
I hope the new "claimed" power is actually real this time and not "fluff". If it's real, the new Max should be able to equal the performance of the old one despite the extra weight.

I think that Nissan wants to emphasize the handling prowess of the Maxima rather than the straight line speed.
A car maker wouldn't normally put 245/45R18s on a 4-dr family sedan without reason, them be expensive tires & rims.
Those tires will go a long way in producing grip at high speeds and tight corners!

Well, I think the Maxima simply had to have those huge tires simply because the car itself is huge. Even with 18s on, they don't look that big. It's all relative. 17s look massive on an old Civic, but 18s look just a bit bigger than standard on this new Max.
