6th gen Max do look like Saturn

Two days ago i was driving on highway, and i sudden notice a car about 10 cars in front of me that look like the new maxima
I sped up to catch the car....its a FREAKING SATURN

Last night I was watching TV, and there came a commercial. It started with the rear of the car. I thought wow its the new maxima commercial....and its the FREAKING SATURN again

That's the first thing my wife said: "It looks like the new Altima and Ion hooked up."

No AWD, no V-8, nothing all that remarkable. Nissan has destroyed the Maxima. It only took 9 model years and 3 generation model upgrades, but slowly and surely, it lost its niche.

Pathetic new generation. n:

It's not an audi or some other German super car...get over it the car is good for America.... go to germany for monster engines and super stabiltiy...in america you buy after market products if u dont like what u got

I don't expect an Audi or something German. I expect a good quality Japanese product. Case in point:

Honda can accomplish this with a 3.2TL based on an Accord, yet differentiate it enough AND put some damn build quality in it for 30 to 32k. Why can't Nissan do the same for the same money?

Go sit in a Camry and marvel at the quality of the interior versus an Altima. It's pathetic to see what Nissan has done to most of their model line. Other Japanese companies can do it, why can't Nissan?

My 94 Maxima is one of the best cars ever made from the standpoint of reliability, practicality, and driving experience. After the introduction of the VQ for '95, Nissan kept castrating different aspects of the car, thereby removing its soul and original purpose which was to sell a Z-based 4 door sports car for a reasonable price.

My 99 Maxima has been a disappointment. The 2k1 rental I drove for a week was even more of a disappointment. Nissan got away from what it did well and became too concerned about marketing and perceptions and they still scratch their heads as to why they are losing money.

The Infiniti G35 is the Maxima's replacement. Why Nissan bothered with a 6th gen Maxima that costs nearly as much as a RWD VQ based car is beyond me.

i just wonder what that plastic will sound/look like after a few bumps.. and a few curb runs.. and few sodas spilled on it.. and some kids kicking it during diaper change etc. eek

but that saturn ion is an outrage. i remmember jeep sued some other suv maker because the other car had a similar 7 slot grille. 1 grille.. they sued. nissan get it's rear ripped and just slides it by? wtf

its funny that i found this thread....a few weeks ago i was chilling outside my car, and i see what appears to be a new maxima drive by! so i obviously chased after it to see what it was, but never really figured it out. when i saw the saturn ad, i figured it out. the similarities are scary.

It just occurred to me that perhaps Saturn intended to piggy back on the styling impact and success Nissan had with the Altima. Coincidentally, Nissan was thinking the same thing. Saturn may have never imagined that the Altima would be the genesis of the new Maxima! As a result, both Nissan and Saturn came to nearly the same conclusion about what an Altima knock off would look like.

Pretty funny...I don't know which company should be most flattered. In either case, the consumer was obviously not part of the equation!

if i had the new ion, i'd put maxima badges on it and see if anyone noticed the difference. the difference would be one is a dog, but a dog with dent resistent panels that is however much cheaper in price.

i'm sure there will be many differences in build quality but i was really suprised when i first saw the commercial. i thought it was the maxima too and was kinda mad to find out it was the new saturn. nissan should sue!
