Direct competition for Max is Passat, 2wd A6 and maybe acura TL.
A4 is smaller and sportier. Nissan needs something similar to 4motion setup used on WVs for the Max.

35k for a FWD Maxima, they are smoking crack. I'd take the G35sedan over it all day and day. And the Acura TL-S. The ALtima is still faster with 25 lepp hp. This makes no sense.

It makes a lot of sense.

1) The 6th gen has not been tested in the hands of those capable of squeezing out its full performance. What you see are magazine times, we all know how inaccurate those can be.
2) The Maxima is now moving one full class up thus the price increase. Additionally, a lot of features are now standard whereas it would be options in the 5th gen's and prior.
3) The 6th gen is still the biggest of the Nissan group, for people who have families and need the space the Maxima is pretty much the only sedan out there that can give you a good balance of performance and space.

It went from bubble butt to just plain old ugly bubble Nissan lost its style so i will never own one againI would choice the Mazda 6 over it plus have extra money left over.

i'm starting to grow onto the 04 maxima......only flaw i see is the grille........but the 97-99 maximas were the best(in white)

After reading the recent issue of Motor Trend, they said that the G35 is the '04 Max's competition and a con was that it was nearly close to a G35

Hmmmm... 1st the Max & I30/35 were identical, and even though the G35 is RWD and the '04 Max is FWD, now both '04 Max & G35 are close??

95emeraldgxe I know the feeling, I had a '98 SE before in Arctic White Pearl & it was a beauty (see sig). Even Super Black & Sterling Mist suit the 4th gens very well

I think all previous gen Maximas are good looking so I won't argue which one looks the best. I own a '02 and why do I think its the best, 255 ponies or should I say 240.

Looking at the '04 Max next to the A4 Audi you really notice how ugly the new Max is and I'm not even a fan of Audis(except maybe the S4)

As for dramatic styling, I guess you can say that. It looks like a freakin' Saturn for God's sake, but I won't open up that can of worms again.

I respect your opinion and also don't intend to open up a can of worms either but I think the Max makes the Audi look ugly. I hated the styling of the new Max at first, but have grown to love it.
