Actually I can't confirm this but I think the I35 is dead. I read it or heard it somewhere. With the G's, M's and Q's in the lineup, kind of makes sense to eliminate the I.

With Infiniti going all RWD by eliminating I, I think Nissan should follow suit, or maybe go all AWD, we'd kick Subaru's ***

I was hoping Nissan would base the new Maxima on the Infinti G35 platform (RWD!!).

Yeah, how about a turbo AWD version of the Spec V!!! And it needn't be a high boost turbo; just enough to give it and add'l 60hp and make it about as quick as the base WRX.

I was thinking about it last night and i think they are replacing the I35 with the new M45. It does have a starting price thats 12 grand more than the I35, but hey...its classy. And fast for an automatic, 3900 pound, luxury sedan. Road and Track states it goes 0-60 n 6.1 seconds and runs the 1/4 mile in 14.6@96.8mph. All it needs is an optional 6-speed hehe

The Teana may become the I35 replacement here in the states. As we all know the I35 here in the states was the Maxima every where else since the Teana will be the new Maxima outside the states there is a possiblity that they might make the Teana the I35 here. As someone said earlier though Ifiniti is going RWD so who knows...

I can see the Teana becoming the I35 if they make some minor cosmetic changes to the front facia and rear tail-light treatment. It's too bland as it is, and doesn't match the aggressive styling Infiniti has taken lately. As for the fact that Infiniti doesn't want any more front drivers... the Teana is available with AWD. That would make a great I35.

It's not going to happen, it would compete with the G35. Right now the I and the G share the same price range, and that's bad enough.

Actually i think the maxima is taking place of the i35. I think the top notch fully loaded maxima can compete with the es300 and it deffinantly makes shame of the acura TL. And im not sure how much a fully loaded max costs but isnt it around 35,000 which is where es300 and TL starts as a base model. I never saw maxima having any direct copetition, camry, accord, sonata... were more on par with the weak @ss altima. But since the new altima has stepped up the game with attractive design and superb performance also optional v6, it can now compete with accord camry and the rest of the other cars in its class. Maxima is a better more affordable version of what premium car lines like lexus and acura wish they could sell.

You are very right. Only problem is Nissan has GOT to step up the QC on their cars to be on par with the Lexus and Acura nameplates, not that they should be, necessarily, but just say Toyota and Honda to keep it in the right class of car. Just got through giving the new ride a total wax and saw a couple of weird things with the paint. My buddy has some weird stuff with his, too. They are really down to the nit, to be honest, with the details they need to improve, but there are enough of us nit-pickers that don't cut 'em any slack...shouldn't have to when you pay $30k+ for a car.

I found an article that says Infiniti will be continuing the I35 and that it will be a rebadged version of the '04 Maxima.
