You'll be in a bigger predicament if you buy that 300m. That's what I traded in for my Max. It's a total piece of ****, don't even consider it. Besides quality an reliability, the performance isn't even close. The Max eats the 300m alive in both acceleration and performance. Dude, just don't do it. You'll kick yourself if you do.

DONT CHANGE THE HEAD UNIT
If you are thinking about changing the head unit, forget it. You will only be able to add your own amp and speakers to the new 04's. The envirnomental controls and car electronic settings all depend on the display screen and you cannot de-integrate the cassette, radio or satellite from it without persistent system failures.
Sorry

Re: Installing an Aftermarket Stereo
Newbie here, observed for a while, first post. I just took my '04 SE over to a reputable audio installer to have a line out converter put in so I can run an aftermarket set of subs and amps and keep the H/U. After wiring the power, ground and remote and installing the line out converter, all audio went dead. We removed the converter, and still, no audio. The install shop called three different dealers, and none of them had a clue as to what the problem is. They set up an appointment to take it over to the dealer and have them get the sound back up and running again, and then try the line out converter again. The installer said he was surprised that he saw 8 different amps in the car. I get the car back Wednesday afternoon from the dealer and will post once we have a solution. Just wanted to give you all a heads up for when you attempt any mods on the stereo.

hmm sounds like an amp for each speaker. i think i am going to go the route of installing the alpine head unit in and make room in the dash for it somehow. that way i wont have to deal with all that crap. keep us informed on how they get it fixed deveruax and thanks for the info

im sure he was reputable, but he sounds very inexperienced. these bose systems come with separate amps for each speaker. i even had this in my 90 se maxima, so this is nothing new.
plus the stock speakers are like 1ohm (or some idiotic impendence), so directly connecting the amp to stock speakers are a bad idea.
you might want to check out another shop. ask them a few q's to see if they have any idea what they're up against in the maxima. this really shouldnt be a big deal to an audio shop thats worked with these bose systems before.
you should be able to get some great info/advice in the audio/stereo section on the org.
keep us updated on this project!

Well, my Nissan dealer has the car another day and has not figured out the problem as of yet. The have called other dealers and have calls into the electronics division at Nissan USA and will have an answer tomorrow.
In regards to your post MaxAppeal, the dealer has worked on many Bose and previous Maxima systems before, but has never had this problem occur. It's just a line-out converter which is easy to install, but I am wondering if there is some kind of tweak Nissan and Bose made to the system which changed from previous versions.
And lwebb12, I'm not too sure how you would go about putting an Alpine in there without doing some major mods to the panel. I read about the guy who did mods to the Lexus, so I'm sure it can be done, but I assume it would cost quite a few bucks to do it. I've put a few posts over on the12volt.com, and all of the philes over there wished me luck and said the best route would be to wait for Metra or Scoshe to come out with a dash kit. I'm sure you could put a deck in the glove compartment or under the dash and just re-wire all of the channels, but it just depends on how you want to work it. I certainly wouldn't FM modulate anything as you don't gain much.
I'll post tomorrow after talking with the dealer more...

Yes that is correct. For my old alpine one there was a cartridge, a lot easier at times and stored in the trunk, but this will do. Tho it is a pain when you want to take the cd's out and you have to go thru each slot and not be able to just take the whole cartridge out.

More insight on the Line-Out converter......
At my last post I mentioned how the sound went out when the audio installer tried to put the line out converter in, and when he took it out, still no sound. The Nissan dealer said that one of the amps had blown and they had to replace that first in order to see if any other parts were needed. The audio installer is paying for the damamge as it was their error, and at $750 to replace the one amp, that's fine with me. The replacement amp comes in on Wednesday, so no audio until then, and that is if the blown amp is the issue. I'll post again once I get the amp replaced and see what Nissan says....

$750 ?!?!!!
Just get the shop to give you some Polk speakers (to replace the Blose) and a decent amp to push them, instead of having them pay this ransom. This way, you both come out ahead!
This would work on the Max, correct?

Yep. $750. The audio installer is picking up the amp and installing it tomorrow as well as the line out converter, hopefully they'll get it to work this time or they'll be out another $750. I'm sure that price included install as well, but still, $750....If I could, I would completely replace all speakers, but the cost of doing so and not being able to change the head unit would be a real hassle. Plus, the vehice is leased, so I can't go too overboard.

Somewhat related... Hopefully this sparks some ideas for you guys.
This guy installed an aftermarket screen and NAV system in his Murano. It looks pretty clean.

Doesn't seem all that stupid to me... stupid would be a perfect sized radio that would just slide out so it could be easily replaced with a $300 model instead of their $1000+ upgrade

HAVE YOU COMPARED THE BASS BETWEEN THE BOSE IN THE ALTIMA TO THE BOSE IN THE MAX?
It's obvious you haven't. And if you have, do yourself a favor and don't admit it!
