Yep, I'm thinking the same thing. I was hoping to break the 12's when I ran my Lightning but ended up with a 13.54. I did hit a 2 flat 60' time which I was aiming for (with stock tires).

c2003k, can you make it to G-ville this Wednesday night? The guy that bought my truck wants to go run it this Wednesday night. I'm probably going to head over and see what an auto will run. I'm definitely taking the spare out along with that damn air filter, maybe I can cut .1 or .2 off...

Yep, I'm definitely on for tomorrow night. Should be there about time they open the gates, if not a little after. My friend that bought the Lightning is going too. Tell your friend to bring the SL, I'd like to see what it runs. Is it 6-spd or auto??? I happen to run into my friend (the salesperson I bought the car from) this morning and he was in a auto SL. We got stopped by a light, and he said he wanted to see which was faster. I had about 2-3 lengths on him by 3rd gear. Thought he'd be right beside me but I was wrong!

How fast were you going?
I guess the SL gearing “sux” or is more laid back for a smoother shift.

Sry, signature wasn't up in other one. I have the 5-spd auto with sport shift and he was driving the SL, which has the 4-spd auto, but it has where you can put it in each gear. We actually ran twice from 2 red lights. The first time he stabbed it and spun the tires so I got him about a length, then I heard him hit the rev limiter once and it chirped second. 2nd time, he didn't spin as bad, but I let him get the jump again, and I floored it easy and just ran by him both times. Probably 70-75mph before he let off. Not sure though, was watching the road and everything...

Yea, I was in sportsport, it doesn't really help from the start, it only helps from a roll when you can have it in a gear that keeps the RPMs up. I don't know if it's just my friend didn't know how to drive it, or if it is that much slower but I beat him about the same both times. I'm going to the track in about 2 hours, I will post the results in a separate thread tonight when I get back, around 11pm EST...

Well, you were close.

Here is the 2 runs...

1st Run
R/T .188
60' 2.483
330 6.575
1/8 9.932
MPH 72.37
1000 12.831
1/4 15.276
MPH 92.30

2nd Run
R/T .230
60' 2.314
330 6.464
1/8 9.844
MPH 71.77
1000 .000
1/4 15.219
MPH 92.05

That pretty much tells all. I took spare & jack out, along with air filter, and lowered the front tires till they were just a little bit saggy. Avoided the water, just gassed it and spun a little bit for the burnout, staged and tried to get a good jump on the 3rd yellow light. 1st run kind was of spinning, but the 2nd I got a good jump and it didn't spin. 1st run was against a yellow S-10 extended cab, 2nd run was a girl driving a 96 or so Red Camaro SS. She ran a 14.115@99.74mph to my 15.219 but I got her pretty bad off the line, she caught me right at the 1/8.

By the way, don't drive very far with your air filter out. It ran fine during the 2 runs and in between, but I forgot to put it back in before we left, and as we pulled out of the gates to leave, the car wouldn't go anywhere, would just idle along. I stopped, turned it off, put the air filter back in, and it was fine. Go figure

I was able to record your two runs tonight, we was trying to at least get one run against you. You left kind of early, we should have bounce early also, because the track Sux tonight. Tonight was very disappointing, normally we run high 14s, but tonight we ran almost identical times as your two runs. Are you happy with your times?
I am going to let your post your times. Maybe next time we can line them up

edit...oops I see you beat me home

Not that good, seem like everyone was running slower times last time. Very hard to hook up, temperature was 86(8pm) to 82(10pm) degrees. The RH was in the upper 90’s all night long.

ok here it is, weather was 88 degrees and 70% humidity, this is no excuse at all car ran what it ran. this 1st of all this is my fathers car i dont drive it all the time. second on the street if u nail it u get a nice screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch off the line and the car just takes off like a champ.... so 1st run tires where set at 30 psi and 32 psi in the back... right before i staged i nailed it up to the line and the tires screamed!! pulled up to the light, light went green i just stomped on it spun all the way through 1st and second spun passed 60ft mark, kept it nailed the whole way ran a very crappy 15.2 at 93.4 mph... i was very upset now, on the street i just floor it get a nice screetch out of the tires and i go, not at this track and usualy its a very good track... 2nd run i was like maybe the track is better now, ill nail it again so i stomped on it again nothing but smoke so i get totaly off the gas and than nailed it again, spun a tad more and ran a 15.1 at 93.9 mph.... i was talking to other people and they where so mad that there was no hook up, and on an avg there cars where off by a half second.. so judgeing by this the 04 max will hit a 14.6 or 7 on a good prepped track and better weather... there was a really cool guy there with an auto 03 maxima gle with just a cone k&n filter, he showed me timeslips of his car from april when he was there he ran consistant 2.2 to 2.3 60fts and always ran 14.6s at 95 on all 4runs he did back in march. his best run in arpil was 14.48 at 95 icing down the manifold.. lastnight he ran a 15.2 and another 15.2 at 89 and than 91 mph.. with 2.4 60fts, my first crappy run was 2.5 something 60ft second was high 2.4s 60ft... so as far as i can see its not the car it was the track.. but for a humid and hot night trapping almost 94 isnt bad... than to top it off on the way home i stopped at a traffic light and floored it just to see how much i would spin, i had a nice chirp and just took off like a mo fo.. so it was the track i wont say track there was just no hookup there..so as far as i can see that made me run low 15s.. the car is very capable of running 14s easy... by the way the car was 3580 lbs with me in it.. im only like 120 pnds... so the car is like 3460 without me in it.. so there u guys go the times will only get better when and if i go back with better traction and i get more runs to practice the launch, and they prep the track better, mid to high 14s isnt a problem for this car... with my spec v i run 15.3s all day long on an avg and on the street my pops 04 max will beat me from a dead stop by about 4 cars.. high 14s is good enough for me, but i do think mid 14s is very capable

Shouldn't have nailed it off the line! Spinning tires=bad run, should've tried to ease into at the 3rd yellow light, could've maybe ran cut a 14. Also, you didn't lower the pressure any? Should've cut them back some too. I know these cars are faster than a 15 second quarter mile, a friend of mine that has a 99 TransAm Automatic road with me a few nights ago and he said that I could probably give him a good run. He saw the numbers on my window and the first thing he said was, "It ran a 13 what?" I was like, "Not quite yet..."

I can't wait until the temp and humidity drop here, I'm going the very last day the track is open before they close for the Winter in late November, so it should be getting chilly around here then

Yea nailing it won't exactly give you the best numbers. I thought I posted that as advice to you on another thread!

i nailed it spun like mad than got off the gas and back on it and ran a 15.1 so what im saying is, if i just got a good launch some tire spin and stayed on the gas i would have gotten 14s right? how much time do u loose getting off the gas and back on it? quickly though, but i still got off the gas and than the reaction for the tranny to kick back in and go..

You lose more if your tires spin, it doesn't seem like it, but you do. You'll just have to build experience with launching at the track. The first few times I went I did the same thing until I learned that the best thing to do is NOT spin the tires. Work on getting your R/T as close to redlight as possible and work on the not spinning the tires. Don't worry about the damn times Worry about the driving, the good times will come as you get better

I'd think leaving the tranny in 1 will help things. Are you saying the tranny shifted into 2nd and then back into 1st or are you saying you spun some, let off, and got back on it? In my 4th gen, I launch at around 4000rpms, slowly release the clutch, and feather the gas trying to modulate wheelspin. I don't go full throttle until the tires hook up which is about 5000-5500rpms in 1st. The goal should be to modulate the throttle where you're spinning enough that's it's not killing your traction and you're not getting a ton of traction where it's causing the motor to bog. It's a tricky thing, but it can be done. It's been my experience that bogging is FAR worse than spinning. You also don't want to spin so much than you completely spin thru 1st too quickly that it causes the tranny to upshift into 2nd too early.
