It looks like the auto on headlight sensor area on the dash can be opened so I can darken it on the inside to make the headlights come on all the time. This would result in daytime driving lights, that would turn off automatically. Has anyone opened the sensor area to do this and if so how is it done? Does doing this void any of the warranty? Thanks for the help. I have a 2004 SE Silver, with the silver interior.

Why not try putting some sort of dot over the sensor first? Maybe you can find something that will blend in nicely. There are some new labels that are easily removed, mostly for refrigerators and such. Perhaps one of those, trimmed to a circle and coloured black with a sharpie marker would be perfect.

Great idea Nick!

I'd go a step further and cut a smaller circle out of paper and place it inside. Just to cut down on the tape residue that would be left behind. That way you'd only have a small ring to clean up rather than the whole area.

Personally I like the DRL that the 04's have. My personal pet peeve are DRL's. I've gone so far as to remove them from past vehicles I've owned. Since the DRL's are usually high beams at 60% they are aimed poorly, and at dusk and dawn you get glare from oncoming drivers. The Max DRL's are an entirely seperate bulb/reflector, and are diffuse enough to not be annoying.

It would've been great if Nissan left the harness in for the DRL relay. The bulbs are in the headlight assembly but no harness to the relay panel in the engine compartment... unless I wasn't looking hard enough.

An interesting OT:

On Wednesday night I left my headlamps on, on purpose, and after about 3 minutes they turned themselves off. Kinda cool.

That's 180 seconds (max), Did you know that you can program in the following interval: off / 30 sec / 45 sec / 60 sec/ 90 sec / 120 sec / 150 sec / 180 sec.

Are we talking about the same thing? I left them on in the ON position not the AUTO position. They still turned themselves off. Is that adjustable too just like the AUTO off feature? I'm using the manual to prop up the broke off leg of the sofa...

You should try using the jack, adjustable height.

Headlights turned ON and OFF by the driver (no AUTO headlight function); day or nighttime operation. Same operation as Headlight switch in the AUTO position.
