New problem...

Wife and I pull out the driveway last weekend and I hear what sounded like the noise break pads make when they are worn to the wear indictors. Kind of a scrathy squeal. It id it for a few seconds and went away. A few minutes later it started again and noticed it only did it when accelerating. Very erratic. Took in into the shop for some other things and asked them to check it. Of course they could not duplicate it. I go home and try to get it to do it and found that it only does it at 1,500 rpm when lightly accelerating. Bring it back the next day and go for a ride with the mechanic. We drive around for about 15 minutes and finally I get it to do it a little. When we get back to the dealer, I decide to try and power break it at 1500rpm and the noise was loud and steady. He looks at me and says what the hell is that. I told him it was his problem now. ( He is a friend of mine BTW) So he tries to listen and look around and then shrugs his shoulder and says he has never heard anything like that. It sounds like something rubbing on a pulley or belt but he said that all looked good. And it only does it under a load at exactly 1500 rpm.

Anyway, it is scheduled to go in this week to have it looked at. Other than that it has been a good car. Had the hood repainted becuase it had oil looking spots and had a rear door entry trim piece replaced because it kept coming off. That and the water running sound coming from inside the car. It was a cracked coolant overflow bottle allowing air into the system.

When I first bought my 99 Toyota tacoma, I had the exact same problem and had it checked out and nothing was wrong they said, well after about a month it quit and hasnt done it since, I think it was part of the break in period!! I have 65,000 miles on it now and havent had to replace the pads yet....I wouldnt worry too much unless it just doesnt stop.

It is not the brakes, it is something in or on the engine. I will update when they figure it out.
