Squeeky Breaks

Anyone experiencing squeaky breaks on their 2004? I have a SL model with 650 miles and the breaks just started chirping today.

Maybe...but not sure...

Have an SE at 7800 and I think I have the same problem. I say that I think because it is hard for me to tell because I drive in a city and EVERYONE has squeaky brakes. I have yet to admit that I might have squeaky brakes in the hopes that if I imagine it is not there, it won't be. I guess admitting you have a problem is the first step in the road to recovery.

I'll try to listen better now that someone else admitted to the same problem.

I to have a SL and noticed the squeaking around 2k miles. I am now at 2500 and still have it. Waiting for my first oil change to talk to the dealer about it.

yea, my max did the same thing too. I took it in around 3,000 miles, and they turned the rotors, and put new brake pads on. And they soaked the pads in some kind of liquid solution, and now their fine.

take it in and have them fix, it's only a $30,000 plus car. It's still under warranty.

Squeeky brakes on an '04 SE (manufactured 9/03). Started squeeking at around 1400 miles.... now have around 1600. Going to contact the dealer tomorrow.

My dealership told me that squeaky breaks are NORMAL. I wish I could have hit the guy then and there for saying that. anyways the brakes started it when I had about 1000 miles on it. I now have over 13,000 and the problem continues.

Squeaky brakes are normal on a Neon.

My Max is nice and quiet. 9000km.

I’m sorry, I can’t resist:

Squeaky breaks occur when a mouse appears near the coffee machine at work.

Squeaky brakes have to do with that device that stops cars.

You get the jest son. The F'in brakes squeak, the F'in dealer says this is normal and I have a F'in hard time buying this.

I've read a lot of posts on other forums about the brakes on Muranos and G35's squealing, but mine haven't complained even once. Like someone said earlier, brake squeal is usually a product of glazed pads ... which is usually the result of heat buildup caused by overuse of the brakes.

Maybe we need a poll to see if this is a big issue on Maximas.

Well, I took my Max into the dealer today and (of course) they weren't squeaking just then and he couldn't hear anything on his test drive. He inspected the rotors and pads (quick visual inspection) to see if it looked like there was any obvious foreign material cought between them, etc... none. Upon taking my car back to work, they squeeled really loud and I think that it happens mostly when I turn and brake at the same time (although on some days, when it's really bad, it happens whenever I brake). So I took the opportunity to take the car back directly and they heard it this time. Agreed to do a more thorough investigation on Saturday... I'll keep you posted. In the mean time, I think a survey might be informative. So, all of you who have brake problems, does it occur whenever you use the brakes or mostly when braking while turning? Notice any difference?

Took the car back and they couldn't reproduce it again... guy who had heard it doesn't work on Saturdays and the other people couldn't figure out why he had rescheduled for a day when they weren't there. The upshot is that my brakes still squeel, but not as frequently as before. I'll try to bring it in one day when I've got time and they are squeeling. Oh, they also told me that this is normal since they've stopped using asbestos in brake pads....

I just turned 10K miles on my SE. At about 8K I noticed that the brakes would squeak on occasion, but only when backing up. Others on this thread have mentinoned squeaks on turning, and I now that I think about it, most (if not all) of my reverse squeaks were when turning. I have no squeak problems braking going forward -- either high speed or low speed.

Ditto, 5k, squeaks ONLY when backing up (straight). $30,000++++, just shouldn't happen. Period.

I had a similar issue with my 04 SE 10k miles - found the problem was worst when braking and turning to the right. Took it to the dealer for a look, and they found a bracket loose in the front wheel - sorry, forget which bracket. They tightened it, and seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps.

my breaks are not only still squeaking but the car is pulling to the left and there is a rubbing noise from that side. Back to the dealer. This is getting old quick.

Bulletin NTB00-033a. This bulletin states that PBC grease will decrease
noise.

Took to the dealer today and had this applied. Seems to be working so far.
