Engine Noise

Engine Noise

My engine is making a noise almost like a chain is lose or something i guess you could say. WHen i start it up i get the sound and i also get it while im accelerating. It goes away after awhile...i dont know what it is...ive had it for awhile....my last post didnt go through about it...anyways id like some help...wondering if any of u guys have had the same problem. Thanks again and ive got 850 miles on it....

It may be a "heat shield". Mine does something similair, but goes away when hot and doesn't come back unless the car gets really cold. I will take it in verify, but the sound is the same as my other Max and they told me the same thing.

One of my "heat shields" was loose and would rattle at around 2K+ RPM... the service tech tightened it right up and no more rattle....

You know it does do it around a certain RPM...maybe thats it..im getting it looked at this weekend anyways, i have to get a rim replaced because the guy that took it to get it cleaned and gased hit a friggin curb so they had to get one in...

I had the same exact problem. It was the heat shield but it took them over 2hrs to diagnose and fix. Their must be a flaw in the manufacturing process on that step if there are this many with the problem.

If the noise is at start up then it's probably the "silent" timing chain (yea right). That was a big issue with us Alti owners at first.

That's about when mine would make noise. I had to be accelerating and the engine speed at 2K-3K RPM or so.. wouldn't make the noise in park at those speeds.
