Injen Install

I told my bro about the GD going on for the Injen intake. He received the package this week and read over the instructions, which indicated the need to take off the front bumper
I'm wondering WHY????
Has anyone out there with the automatic done this install yet? I thought it would be a piece of cake to install this but maybe not....

Injen CAI Install

Here is my post from last week that should answer your question:

I called Injen (after I had already ordered the CAI) and they said it should fit an automatic. I have had the new intake on my car for a couple of weeks now, and it works great. It's seems to be a quality product and the install was easy.

As for the sound, not noticeable at idle or cruizing speed. After 3 grand the noise starts to build until you get to 5 grand, then it turns into this awesome stacato rapping sound until the trans shifts to the next gear.

Installation Tip: The instructions said to take the bumper off, but that looked like a pain, so I took off the left front wheel and took out a couple of screws and rivets that hold the plastic inner fender well in place. You can pull it aside to get plenty of access to remove the lower airbox and install the air filter.

Next mod: underdrive pulley

Thanks for the great tip.
So you're going for the UDP
I have one on my 98 (5sp) and I think it's helped a little and allows the engine to rev more quickly. Let us know how yours feels. I'm sure I'll be able to talk to my brother into getting one. He's also looking into getting the ypipe when it's available.

BTW....love the color of your ride...

Injen Install

Thanx Maxfreak. Red Maximas seam to be rare out in this neck of the woods. I have only seen one since I bought mine in November.

Install Tip #2 - The instructions also say to unhook the battery. I didn't do it, not wanting to erase all the stuff I had already programmed. You don't have to unplug the MAF sensor to hook up the CAI anyway. They probably put that in there to cover their butts if some bonehead lays a screwdriver across the battery terminals and fries something important.

I am installing the UDP this weekend. I will let you know what the "butt dyno" says.

Just installed my RD1945 Injen CAI on my 04' Maxima Automatic. Installation took about an hour plus 30 minutes of road test. Installation was easy, and the minute you press on the accelarator the engine makes a growling sound, kind of sound coming from a V8 engine. My problem is the light on the dashboard (Engine Service Soon). I disconnected the battery twice, the wires to the intake twice and still the lights stays on. Any help is appreciated!!!!

Dud and Dudets, CAI exelent investment! I had the K&N filter on and that made huge change , but the Injen CAI is incredible. And as u heard the sound from this islike a tiger trying to growl and tear out of a cage from under the hood! Injen said 20 horse, I say a least! UDP installed not a huge change yet? Maybe the intake did all that was there. Unorthadox said that it would take 5 to days to have the full effect. This is sat. 13th let you know this weekend. [IMG]

I read some where in the directions if the check engine light comes on just go to the dealership & they will flash it off. I'm afraid if it happens to me they might want to void my warrenty.

I was waiting for someone to get the UDP and see if there were any install problems? also did you feel any power? I got the injen a couple months ago and it sounds really nice. I dunno if I gained much from and it though. I ran my best 1/4 time when I had a k&n panel filter and with the injen I didnt even come close to the 14.3 but It was traction issues so Im gonna hit the track again and see if it did help.

After a day of driving (Saturday) the light stayed on, so I decided to re-install the original intake the following day and about to call the dealership and have the car fixed. But this morning (Sunday) for the last time, I tried to start the engine again and the engine light did not appear. I took the car for a drive, shut the engine 5 or 6 times and re-started again and the engine light never appeared again. Hopefully by Monday, the engine light will not re-appear again. So be patience if your engine light stays on, just give a day or two and if it stays on, re-install your original intake and call the dealership. Don't even mention about the Injen CAI or else they would void your warranty plus they'll charge an arm and leg to fix your car and they will not warranty their work. It is your call. Once I Own a Civic SI with Jackson header and made the mistake of taking my car to the dealership for oxygen sensor replacement. They did the work but did not give me any warranty on the job they did to my car.

My brother got his installed last monday and LOVES it. His butt dyno feels some improvement and the sound is addictive.
Now he's waiting for the Y pipe to become available

I installed mine without taking the wheel off, just removed 2 screws and some rivet did not have to take the rivets out of the back half of the liner, and it was easy the car was on the ground when i did it. Dont take the bumper off too do the job it is not needed.

I'm still waiting for my injen to get here. Question is why do you have to go through the wheel well, is this so you can install the filter to the piping because it won't fit by pushing it down into place. Is there a way to do it without removing the bumper or wheel well lining?

The filter is to large to fit the opening without going through the wheel well, but it is not a big deal to remove 5 plastic rivets and 2 screws up front and turn your wheel to the right to put it in.

If it were to happen again, take it to autozone, they can clear the codes....

took me a hot second to find this post, but I am by no means a mechanic, but I am dying for this exhaust and the growling sound you guys mentioned, is it idiot-proof to install? How much is it and where do I order it from?
