I had the same problem with my car. The dealership told me that small pebbles can get stuck in the wheel well or rotor. This is supposed to cause all kinds of noises such as grinding or as you said, rumbling. Usually, the pebble will fall out shorty. I only heard my noise for about a week. Hope this helps!!!!

Also have a rumble in the front wheel well

I've had my Maxima for about 3 weeks and today I heard what was some type of rumbling coming from my passenger side front wheel well. I would have never guess a pebble could cause something like that. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow...I sure hope it's that simple.

I also have a very sparodic clicking sound when going over bumps... very hard to duplicate.

Also, sometimes when pulling out of a driveway and going over that rounded depression between the driveway and road (water path along side of road, etc), I get a strange squeek/rumble sound... hope that isn't bad.

Interesting.... Similar for me.... backing out of my driveway, as the front passenger wheel rolls off the 1" lip onto the street, I sometimes get a sorta thump/rumble sound.

Sounds more like a bad strut mount than anything. I think the dealer might be playing a game with you, as the bad strut mount is generally from installation rather than faulty equipment.

same thing, i also hear in the rear passenger side as well, its worse there. the delaer said hes not prepared to call it a strut issue yet and needs to investigate more by taking the car apart. haahahah i told him hes crazy because it def sounds like a damn strut. Its goin in for service on monday, evidently they wont just replace the strut before they are sure thats it. whatever. friggin maxima already has noises at 3000, i wish i was deaf.

I had both rear ones replaced because i was getting a squishing sound when going over large dips in the road. They said the shock had a flat spot in it(it could be moved 2 or 3 inches one way by hand)That solved the problem 2 months ago and now it has returned.

I haven`t heard anything from the front(yet)..............

squishing sound? hmmm heres the deal, when i gover bumps, only heard driving very slow, and especially heard bcackin over the bumps at the end of my driveway, I heard, very loudly what appears struts in the read and a little in the front, seems right side on both. maybe a squish but not really kinda like a knock that happens twice, when the strut compresses and expands. Now, when I park the car, open the trunks and push down on the tunk repeatdly, i dont hear anything, which makes me wonder if its the strut. Is this similar? Its not the deck rattle, I know what that is, that can be heard by tapping on the rear deck, which doesnt bother me.
These damn struts seem crappy, im almost positive thats what the noise is, cause it sound sjust like my 97 maxima did after 130 miles with the origianl stock struts.
FUnny thing is this damnm 04 max has 3000 miles.

Exactly, I don`T hear the sound when I try to duplicate it by rocking the car up and down. It is annoying but the ride still is real fine.

The sound was there again over the weekend and this morning there was Nothing. Damn, I can`t go to the dealer if the sound doesn`t happen. Still warranty though but I want to clear this problem up before the busy summertime.

Thumping Noise

I don't have a 6th Generation Maxima, but I have a 2005 Nissan Altima, I came accross this subject about a rumbling noise when hitting bumps I hear the same noise I have taken it back to the dealer 3 times finally they are going to replace the strust because my noise is in the back driver side. I hope this will stop the noise it's very annoying because I live in DC and its a lot of sewer covers in the street and that is when I hear the noise moslty.

tomorrow morning they are replacing the front right strut and both rear struts. i told them they are crazy for not replacing all 4 because i dont want to come back. obviously if 3 are bad, chances are the 4th is crap too. I hope this fixes my knock/rumble when i drive over small bumps. Hopefully its not the strut mount.

Ill post a reply when I pick the car up.

Do you mean front or rear? I assume front because of the ball joints. Mine is a rear problem that has returned.

Yeh, I know what you mean. My rear two were replaced a couple or three months ago and they are doing it again. I had the same problem with my 02 Altima. Damn cheap shocks.
