Much less then what Nissan advertises on this car

O.K., sports fans, here are my numbers: 19.6 mpg with about 60/40 highway vs. city driving on 04 SL with 5000 on the odometer. These numbers are similar to Playadave's. Since others have reported much better mileage, I'm wondering if it's time for a visit to my friendly Nissan store's service department...

P.S. Have used 91 octane exclusively.

6 speed SE is getting 23 to 26. This is Tampa area, so lot's of traffic that is stop and go. I have about 40/60 highway/city...

I think this bears repeating:

If you are watching your on-board trip computer for your mileage, it is giving you the total, cumulative average mileage for all the miles you've racked up unless you zero it. And since even a string of excellent-mileage tanks won't significantly change the overall average, you may be misleading yourself.

To zero the display, press and hold the "Fuel Econ" button until the display reads "**". I do this with every tank.

Also, you might want to compare your computer mileage with the old gallons/miles method a few times to verify its accuracy. Expect a slight difference, as the computer is probably more accurate!

Mike_TX, you are absolutely right. I had this discussion with my dealer last week. Also for Canadian owners----the gallons are U.S. NOT Imperial.

I just put a K&N filter in and the mileage went up to about 27.8 on the highway (lots of hills etc.) I noticed a bit more pick up in the car. The car is also a bit more throaty i like it. Part number 33-2031-2 for anyone interested.

bigcozz, I have the K&N air filter from my 2k2 Altima. I believe I`ll pop it into the Max. The mileage has got to go up.

I'm averaging 17.8 mpg, according to my computer. I have not reset it though and I only have 500 miles on the car.

I have a 6spd and I have had the A/C on for about 60% of the time.

Mine (as previously stated) was around 22.8. But over the past few tanks, the computer has been reporting 23.8 to 24.5. (I do a complete fill from E to F almost 2 times a week).

My A/C is set to Auto at 72-78.
