Hunter 9700 Rocks  !!!! (story inside)

Its gone!! yup I am talking about steering wheel shimmy. I am yet to believe that its gone.

Took the car to a Good year dealer with Hunter9700. The machine is awesome and one wheel found to be defective (road force beyond acceptable range 35). Replaced the defective tire with my full size spare and now the shimmy is gone.

More than that, Good year replaced the defective tire and all i have to pay is the labour for mounting it ( about $35), In addition, I do get free flat repair, balancing/rotation/warranty on all 5 tires for life.

I cannot believe how this freeking defective tire was driving the crap out of this lovely max. Now the ride is so different and is so smooth!!!

Now the trivia,

I dont know whether this road force is a manufacturing defect or comes over a period of time.

When i had the shimmy 3 months before, i took it to the dealer and they balanced it with hunter 9700 and they could not identify the defective tire. How could it be possible? (also they did the TSB and steering rack adjustment).

to tell you, 9700 is so userfriendly , and i was overlooking when the technician at good year did the balancing. It clearly prompted that the tire is defective and needs to be replaced and it did not allow the technician to override the error meaning, did not allow him to continue with the balancing.

Sounds great. you made out very well. seems that you are among the many with a possible dealer that is on the weak service side. I mean the same machine in 2 shops with different results.

Maybe the dealer personnel just needs more thorough training with the tire/wheel aspect. Unless goodyear already knew the possible cause and hasn't shared it with Nissan?
Either way, this would save so many headaches and complaints. Come on Nissan, get with it please?

Now lets go read the + thread by carcus of why we love the MAX!!!

not if u buy pirellis or michelins
remember only rotate front to back with our Max. no crossing sides. that might give u a shimmy.

Hope ur 05 comes soon. no worries, you'll be all smiles for days on end once u see her. Mine made me forget all my past "relationships"

LOL. I can't wait until October and November are up. The anxiety is building.

Defective tires can be very hard to diagnose sometimes. My friend bought a new 2003 M3 and threw some 19" SSR GT3's on there. The car would shimmy and pull to one side. The BMW dealer tried everything they could to fix the problem. It came down to the point where they were about to invoke the lemon law on the car. Turns out that the $1000+ tires (P Zeros) were defective. Swapped them out for Michelins and the problem just vanished.

Funny when you think about it. It took 3 different BMW techs at two different dealerships, over 5 days to diagnose bad tires. It's not really the Nissan tech's fault, it's just how often do tires come defective from the factory?

I guess in our case, there were more than usual number of defective Goodyear RSAs. May be becuase this tire is exclusively manufactured for Maximas - i mean P245/45-R18 combination.

I find it diffcult not to suspect Nissan tech as this Hunter 9700 was way user friendly and was giving very detailed explanation about the faulty tire and how to correct them.

I also had the tire balanced in another Good year dealer before, with some other machine. but that one just displayed some numbers, to inform whether the tire is balanced or not.

I can also get you the Axis wheels as well. What are you paying for them now? I can do my best to beat their price.
