WOO-HOOO! Goodyear RSA problem fixed!
If you read my previous post, you know I found two of my RSA's had the hairline splits in the sidewalls that some others have reported. I got the Goodyear dealer to agree that all were from the same batch, so all of them should be replaced. He was able to get the price for all 4 tires down to $385 total, but he also agreed to get the Goodyear rep to come look at the tires to see if he might want to do more for me.
Well, the rep looked at the tires and told the dealer to charge me $25 apiece for the new tires! I had 21,000 miles on them, so now I have 4 new ones for $150 including mounting, balancing and new valve stems. Yeee-HA! I'm happy with that!
Now, on the flip side, the Goodyear guys did scrape up one of my wheels.
But they tell me they have a wheel company that will refinish the wheel like new. I've heard of that but never had it done, so I'm curious how that will work out.
Overall, though, I'm thrilled with the outcome. As others have said, check your RSA's often, and if they develop tiny splits in the sidewall area, go to a Goodyear dealer and have them contact Goodyear's main office if they don't know about the problem. The main office people will make it good.

People with the shimmy don't like me saying it, but I've always had my doubts. The Max has very "lively" steering, and some road surfaces will cause the wheel to wobble like crazy. But it's not really a shimmy unless it does it all the time at a given speed, and mine doesn't do it except on certain roads. For example, if you can go 60mph on one road and get a shimmy, but 60 on another road is steady, I don't think you have a problem ... a true shimmy is a mechanical problem and it doesn't know which road you're on!

But, no - the new tires haven't induced a shimmy.

I also have the hairline splits on my sidewalls. I went to discount and they said they can pro-rate three of the tires because they are defective and include the fourth anyway. I was hoping for a replacement but at 24K I can understand none. Anyway, I don't think I'm going to get the RSA's again.
I went to Wheels America once and had a wheel fixed. They did do a great job fixing it but the finish on the wheel was not the same afterword. I think they completely strip the rim including the coating on the rim. Because of this I could always tell which rim it was that was fixed and it took scratches easier. It was definitely an easy fix but being that I was very picky about that car I eventually had to buy a new rim.

Hey hitman - you may get a better deal at Goodyear. They first prorated mine on treadwear (I had 21,000 miles on mine) and came up with $387 to replace all four. After Goodyear's regional rep got involved, they reduced the price to $25 a tire + valve stems and mounting/balancing, for a grand total of $158. Less than half the pro-rated price.
If you haven't already done the Discount thing, it would be worth your time to go to a Goodyear store and have them contact the main office for an adjustment.

I think I'm having the same problem! My rear passenger side tire is getting low constantly for the past week. And the I think the front driver side is doing the same thing! I will definitely work the channels to get this resolved. I have only 11,900 miles on my tires.
well, i got new tires on my car, not RSA's. I went with the Goodrich gforce KDW. I was able to get $120 per tire with 7/32 left at 24K miles for the RSA. Also, only 3 of the RSA's showed the defect but all 4 were warrantied. After, road hazard on the new tires and taxes the total was just under $500 for everything. I was happy with it and now I don't have to worry about my tires anymore. BTW, I went with Discount.
