Whatever happened to chrisaust...with the Blue LED display?
His posts are sticky'd in the how-tos. I just pm'd the other day and he responded so I guess he'll be responding here anytime soon as well
I'm going to be doing this upgrade as well and his thread will be the total guide to get it done.

Please note...changing the LEDs in the info screen is NOT an easy job. The LEDs are VERY small, and the ones you get only have 2 connectors whereas the factory ones have 4 connectors, so you have to blank out two of the connectors on the circuit board. And did I say the LEDs are small...about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch.
Plus..hte ribbon info cable that connects the board to the screen is VERY VERY fragile.
Yes..it can be done, but it's not easy. It is very delicate tricky work. And, if you get one in a row screwed up (make connection with the extra 2 connectors, or bridge the connectors) it will short out the entire row, or part of it anyway.
If you know someone who does very fine electronics stuff for a living, pay them to do it.

can the led's be changed throughout the entire dash? The ONLY thing I dislike about my maxima is the ugly orange/brown display. I wonder if someone could post another thread on how to completely remove the panels and replace the led's behind the odometer/gas gague/ac controls, or is this even possible?
I agree. I would love to change mine to Red LEDs. Much like the BMW interior (or submarine...red for nighttime).
And the surface-mount LEDs are designed to be installed by machine. But there is a market here for variable-color LED board replacement in car dashs...
Never replace a bulb. Color matched car ( or mood).
