Intelligent key???

Since they start to put the intelligen key in 2005 G35 and Murano, do you think Nissan will put the same system in Maxima too? I'm thinking to get 2005 but I really like to have the intelligent key.

intelligent as in opens when you're close? we have a chip that is required for car start/doors open w/o alarm sounding. our cars are already getting too smart for their own good. many dislike the auto-lock feature in 6th gen. "No, you lock when I say."

If this has more features, I would see in the 06 25th Ann. Max.1

Well I don't know what this "intelligent key" business is, but if it's anything like the stuff in my MB, then it's a step in the right direction...

The SmartKey that MB uses has a similar transponder to the key in the Maxima, only that there's no "key" part to the key itself. You could crack the steering column all you want, if you don't have the infrared emitter from the key itself, you're not starting the car. The bestest feature (and a $$$$ option) is "Keyless Go"... it uses RFID and a card the size of a credit card that you put in your wallet/pocket/whatever. When you touch the door handle, the car unlocks. When you touch the shifter, the car starts. Etc.

If you leave the card in the car, it won't lock... and it will beep to let you know you left it in there (like when you leave your lights on). As soon as you get out of the car (with the key) it locks the doors and the trunk.

I think *that* level of intelligence is a good thing... pseudo-intelligence (like auto-lock even when the key in the car) is not.

Yes. That's what I'm talking about. Infiniti started to have this option for FX.
If you need more info, you can download the manual for 2005 G35 or 2005 Murano.

Hi

I pick up my Maxima Ti tomorrow morning at 9:00am (Saturday in Australia) it has an Intelligent Key.

What the hell is this. The car is straight off the boat from Japan arrived in Australia 8 February.

By the way I got Silver with Charcoal Interior. I note the models are different on this forum, it has a Sunroof, Leather Trim, 6 Stacker CD, 17 inch wheels. What model is it in the USA?

sounds like a 3.5SL to me, with the 17" wheels being the giveaway. The SE has 18" wheels, doesn't it?

Hey Sumi! When you get a chance, can you take pics of your Maxima and also the intelligent key. Want to see the difference from the Australia Max and the U.S. Max.

Thanks!

Nissan's (Infiniti's) IntelliKey is something like the M-B one. There is a button by the door handle that you press to unlock the doors, as long as the key is in your pocket (ditto the trunklid). Then, when you get in the car, you just have to push a starter button to start the car ... the key can stay in your pocket.

The "good" thing about this IMO is that it also has lock and unlock buttons on it like a regular remote, so you can unlock the car from a distance (like when you and your other half are running to it in the rain). I wouldn't like to have to actually go up to the car and find and press a little button to unlock it.

A lot of people regard the IntelliKey as a gimmick, and I tend to agree. Other people seem to think it's the greatest thing since sliced beer, so go figger.

Interestingly, there's already been a story about the RF signals from these devices being hijacked by bad guys with simple receivers, and it seems they might be able to hijack your car as well ...
