Audio equipment questions!?!?!?!

First of all wanna say wuts up to all..i'm a newbie..this is my first post..i've been looking at this forum just about everyday for new things and ideas...great forum, keep it up!...
anyways, back to business...i am looking into upgrading my sounds system..i have the stock bose system in there but around here, u aint much unless u bumping...i was looking into adding a JL Audio 1000/1 amp and 13w7 subs..these are monsters, however i was told by an installer that does work for my cousin that it wouldn't sound to good cuz the stock headunit dont put out enough power...sounds reasonable since i was planning on using a line-rca converter to hook up to the amp, and there aint much power goin through the system...
First: is this guy BSing or wut? I've seen his work in my cousin's Supra..he did a full system with alpine indash tv, custom box, and used good wiring, not cheap stuff
Second: I don't really want to mess up the appearance of the dash and was wondering if there was any possible way to install a double din 6.5" Kenwood DXX7015 where the stock info screen is at. Does anyone know or think this is possible, i'm not sure how much room is back there. It would probably be pricey to get done but i'd feel more secure with people thinking i'm running stock.
Thanx guys!

Use a PAC Bose adaptor to get RCA's out of the Bose deck. There is enough voltage to run an amp no problem. If you really need more just throw a line driver on it.

What about modifying the metra dash kit? I was thinking about trying it with either that Kenwood model you're talking about or one of the Eclipse double-din in dash monitors. The metra dash kit has an empty din size pocket in addition to the din opening for your head unit.. I'm thinking if you cut that pocket out, you'll have space to drop your monitor in. Just a thought.

As mentioned above just buy a PAC bose adaptor. This will give you a clean RCA signal for your amp. Just tune your amp accordingly and you will have a mean system. Nice choice by the way, that JL knocks .

As for the Kenwood double din, I would modify the metra dash kit and have it fit in there. Not that much work and it would still give you a factory feel.

Good Luck and post some numbers when you get the system installed....I'm in the process of installing my system this week.

I have a question if anyone knows the answer; can you get an adapter or two so you can hook up a 4 channel amp. I want to take out the Bose speakers and put my own speakers and use a aftermarket 4 channel amp with the Bose or who ever makes the factory head unit so I can keep the stock look.

I noticed two different PAC adapters:

PAC Universal 4-channel Line Out Converter OEM-2 and OEM-1

Here's the difference:

Note: The difference between the OEM-1 and OEM-2 is that the OEM-2 has bare wires and the OEM-1 uses specific plugs that plug into a vehicle.

Seems like the OEM-1 would be easier to set up, just plug it in and no wire splicing?

Which is the better one to use? Any advantages of one over the other?

The Kit you are looking for is the AOEM-NIS2 from PAC. It's a complete kit including the OEM-1, the plugs for the factory radio, and 4 RCA outputs.

Well, if your looking for easy plug and play then the OEM-1 is the one to go with. They are both pretty much the same aside from the wiring. So, unless you have a harness without the factory plug (ie - stolen factory radio) then, then the OEM-1 is the way to go.

I thought of using the metra kit and puttin in the double-din, however, i'm just afraid of getting broken into...i dont live in the best of areas...atleast a 1 din is someone lest conspicuous...i'm still iffy on whether to wire the amps using the bose still..the installer said it would work but i would not get the full potential of the amp..it would cut off after a certain amount of volume...i was thinking of just getting a headunit installed first..something like the Kenwood kvt-915dvd...i was also considering the alpine iva-d300 or iva-d901...i like the features of the kenwood, however the alpine iva-d901 has better screen resolution...i'm thinkin, "its a 7 inch screen, i'm not looking for hi-def. right"?...which one is better?

What does he mean by "it would cut off after a certain amount of volume.."? Meaning that the amp would shut off or there wouldn't be sufficient voltage from the rca input?

Either way, if the amp is set up correctly it won't cut off on you. If the gain on the amplifier is set to match the voltage of the rca input then you will have no problems, whether it's .5v to 8volts. You just have to see what kind of amp you are going to use and check to see what the range of the gain is.

Now don't get me wrong. I think that adding an aftermarket HU is the way to go but, it's not really necessary(that's all I'm trying to say). You will get better control and equalization from the aftermarket HU then the stock unit, without a doubt. Sub on/off, Built-in lowpass and highpass filters, adjustable eq's, etc. You may even get a better, cleaner signal with no distortion with the aftermarket HU.

I really don't have too much hand's on experience with the Kenwood but, I can tell you that the Alpine is a great screen. Good Luck with either of them.

I have swapped from front to rear on a 4 channel amp from a aftermarket stereo and have noticed no difference whatsoever. I am sure someone else will say something different.

What are your plans for the stock display ie: climate, temp, trip computer etc...someone did replace the screen and move the stock screen check it:

Here's the link and a pic for the guy who moved the screen:

i've seen this guy b4 on car domain...if i go for the indash pop out tv i won't do that..i'd rather put 2 screens in my headrest for the backseat passengers..if i could fit that double din like i wanted then i would've done something similar to that..i like that install..still undecided on wut to do..i am leaning towards getting the head unit first then build from there
