Where would you put your mod dollars? :)

This is an interesting thing that I was just thinking about...

No matter what the haters say, the 6th gen obviously has appealing looks -- otherwise we wouldn't be driving it, right? -- and it has the performance to match. The interior is reasonably luxurious and the sound system is at least adequate (even though some things could use some work )

So the question is... if you had a couple of grand to spend on the car, where would you start? Would you a) update the interior/sound system (speakers, HU, amp, subs, monitors, etc) or b) put some money into the performance side of things (y-pipe, intake, udp, etc) OR would you c) blow the money on exterior styling (body kit, wheels, etc).

I've been thinking about what to do to my car next and quite frankly I'm not sure where I would start... everything is equally "nice", and while it could be nicer, I don't know if I would start outside, inside or under the car...

I plan on attacking my mods from the outside-in. Nothing sets off the appearance of a nice car like some nice rims. The interior is leather and wood trim so I don't see putting money on upholstery, so as far as inside stereo is next. Although since winter is coming up, considering what the elements can and will do to a new set of rims, I might do just the opposite. That's my current hang up.

couple of grand? don't tease me. I could make that go a long way. Less than 1k for suspension: adj. shocks & struts, stillen rsb & fstb. 100 to make my headliner black, <500 for amp and sub (just b/c of extra $) the rest towards Pirellis.

I love the way she is, and would only feel the itch to mod if I ever had extra cash (which isn't happening anytime soon).

then if a couple Gs more, body kit or nice gunmetal rims just to look different.

The best answer is what do you want to accomplish by moding the car? Do you listen to enough music in the car to make it a worthwhile update? Do you plan on showing off your car and winning awards? Do you want the butt dyno to really feel some pain?
It's up to you and your priorities. I would get new speakers and keep the HU for now. See how it sounds. I would also get some performance mods before buying any body kits. The body kit should be one of the last things to get. They provide the least margin of utilities IMHO and no gain in performance.

Well this is my daily driver... The "nice" car is standing by when I have to go out... I picked up the Maxima about 2 months ago, and since then I've driven the other car a total of 3 times. It's to the point now that I take her for a spin every weekend just to make sure she doesn't feel neglected... So to answer your question, yes... I listen to enough music in this car to make it a worthwhile update.

And no, I don't do the show/award business... I'd spend money on exterior styling for the same reason you'd mow your lawn or replace your siding... so that it looks nice to me. I don't care if Joe Sixpack things my car is hot... It's my car and my money, so as long as I'm happy with it, that's all that matters.

The "problem" that I have now is that everything seems to be at least acceptable -- if not down right excellent. The exterior is hot, the sound system is decent and the performance is great. I wouldn't mind updating any particular one, but I'm not really sure where to start.

It's up to you and your priorities. I would get new speakers and keep the HU for now. See how it sounds. I would also get some performance mods before buying any body kits. That's good advice though... especially with the winter coming up...

In the end I'm not even sure I'd go with a body kit... maybe just skirts and a new grill, but even that I'm not too sure about. There's a certain satisfaction that comes from being a sleeper... keep the car looking 100% stock, but have so much extra muscle in it that people would pee themselves when you decide to put your foot down...

I would throw money into more performance mods (Supercharger).

But since I am planning on buying an M3 next year there seems no point to it...

I never liked my grill so that is the area to get my first mod. The 6 sp trans needs a STS(none available yet), then a better set shocks would round of my plans.

Nice stereo system, some creature comforts.....maybe a little bit of DVD video screens.....

The stuff you can enjoy.

Exterior wise...besides a grill, they are not that expensive....not much you can do but add some ugly over the top rice looking body kit...

Mods.....well, they are not that cheap and really no gains, but the ones out there are a UD pulley, and a CAI or HAI....what ever you want. Plus a lot for an aftermarket exhaust...if you want a few HP and some sound.....

Personally, I like the sound in the stereo, worth more to me to enjoy.

Could go for some nice rims....

Depends on what you want.

At the price of what some of these CAI and exhaust mods are going for....you can get your self a nice stereo....or at least add to your system...again, depends on what you want.

Choice is yours. That is what makes it so great.

-New grill
-Exhaust
-Intake
-Factory wheels dipped in Chrome would be nice

My mods came in this order:
Tint (1st week)
Rims & Tires (1st month)
Stereo (5 months)
Berk Intake (9 months)
Fog/Blinker Replacement (10 months)
That's it so far...as for the outside, no plans for body kits or anything like that, maybe a new grill once I find one I like. As for performance, exhaust will be next and that's probably it. Struts, ASAP. Inside, I think I'm about done there as well, still working on getting my rear view camera installed and have thought about head rest monitors but I never really have anyone in the back, and I don't want to be that guy I see everywhere with empty backseats and monitors going...

Well, IF I had the money to spend it would have to go to some rims...then some performance mods. Nothing to crazy though as this is my daily driver.

Here's my list of mods:

Alarm/Remote Start - 3rd day
Tints - First month
Flip-down screen - 4th month
Adding custom subwoofer enclosure and amp - Working on it right now (month 6)

I'll probably get an intake and maybe a grill as the next mod. Then, some rims and some suspension work for the summer.

That'll probably be it for me. At least for awhile.

I've just resently installed the billet grill, thanks to Carcus' insight. I've ordered a set of Lexani 20'' rims. I'm also going to be buying a second PS2 for my Maxima, and visor monitors and front seat headrest monitors along with all the necessary wiring harnesses and such.....Before that, the custom alarm w/pager will be installed within a week or two. Once I complete all this work, the only other thing I may do is a cold air intake....Other than that, I'm leaving the rest of the car alone.....I'm 23 and have a child, there's no reason for me to be driving insanely fast anymore.

How does the price you paid for mods effect the performance? A better post would be to determine what is fair pricing for a mod and not to show off that you blew a lot of money on mods that may or may not be worth the money spent.

Mods!

Well,
Since I have done everything possible with my Dodge Ram Hemi that I traded in for the Maxima, I wont do 1/2 as much to this MAX as I did to the truck.

Well to start my car is 2 weeks old.
Week 1= 5% tints 35% windsheild.
Week1.5= Shaved
Week 1.75= Clifford rsx. w/remote start/proximity sensor/tilt sensor/window up/down.
Week 2= Eibach springs installed.
Week 2= 20' wheels and tire on the way.

Week 4-6 and beyond.
Paint factory grill to match the black.
Install 1 12" sub with a 1200 watt Rockford to factory stereo.
then maybe again a TV screen or 2, the wife loves TV/DVD in the car.

SO I BELIEVE IN, OUTSIDE IN POLICY.
EXTERIOR LOOKS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE INSIDE.
THIS TIME AROUND I WILL KEEP IT QUIET, NO EXHAUST,NOS,CHIP,INTAKE. NOTHING!! I HAD ALL THESE THINGS IN MY HEMI. NOT WORTH IT AND TO MUCH $$$$$ SPENT.
