Thanks Siverbelle04 that's what I was looking for, an actual Nissan suppled sheet. So it looks like it's tied to the gearbox on the SE manual transmission.
Wonder if the same is true for the 5sp Auto?

No problem. Here's alink to another mag that quotes the speed limiter to be 140 mph. Doesn't specify auto or 6 sp. ?

According to the link below, the SE is limited to 140 mph and the SL to 137 mph. That means that we can SE can smoke "Lightonthehill" when crusing the interstates of Georgia !

I have the '04 6 speed gearbox in my '02 Maxima. The 4.133 gear only allows me to hit about 146 or 147 in 5th which is short of the 149mph speed limiter. I now have to shift into 6th to hit that limiter. The '02 6 speed has enough gearing in 6th (do NOT confuse with power) to do about 202mph or 157 in 5th. If the A34 gearbox will only let me go to 147 in 5th it means 6th is good for 189mph on 225/55-17 or 245/45-17 tires.

Nissan ECUs do not take a 'chip'. The older ones require a daughter board to be soldered in place and the 2000+ ECUs can get a reflash. I do not know if Technosquare has a reflash for the '04+ Maxima ECU but if you guys really want it, that is the place to contact.

jaydabee--what are you smoking? That is *NOT* an "actual Nissan supplied sheet." That is a Road and Track data sheet, the same one they use for all of their new vehicle test-drives. See the "R&T" in the upper left corner? What SilverBelle04 did was copy and paste a picture of the pdf that I was referring to, the one you couldn't find on the Road and Track site. The one SilverBelle04 and I had no difficulty at all finding. I never claimed to be an expert. The question was asked if anyone had any knowledge of what the top speed was, or the existence of a speed limiter. I provided a link to the cite that you were looking for and SilverBelle04 helped by making it available here for those of you who could not find it on your own (btw, thanks to SilverBelle04 for doing that). As a matter of fact, that makes me the only person in this thread that has provided detailed information. I don't post much, but when I do, I don't post garbage. Next time you have a question, don't ask. I won't waste MY time. It's people like you that discourage people from posting.

Hey, thanks much for the "courtesyparts" link, lots of good info there! But it's also a good demonstration of what I said earlier about the occasional inaccuracies. As I read it, the site says that you cannot get the 5sp auto in the SL. Apparently that was what Nissan was telling everyone post-production but it's no longer true. My SL is a 5sp auto. However, that is the first document I have seen giving gear ratios for the 5sp. Thanks again.

I could be wrong, but I think that the 5 speed became available on the SL in the latter part of the production year.
