Sirius docking kit/AUX input question.
Sirius docking kit/AUX input question.
Sorry if this has been posted before or if it should be in audio. I have an '04 SE dpp (no navigation and no SAT). I got a "Sportster Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver with Car Docking Kit" for X-Mas. In order to get it to work you have to either hook it up to an AUX input or tune to 88.1 and use the FM antenna that comes with it.
My questions are:
1.) Has anyone hooked up a Sirius or XM device like this to their AUX input and if so how difficult was it?
2.) Where did you put your antenna? Is it on the vehicle's exterior?
3.) Where did you mount the docking kit?

Unless you have a deck that works with surius you have to use the FM modulator that it comes with, so turning it to 88.1 is going to be your only way to go. By the way, surius antennas have to be placed outside your car like on the roof, XM can get away with being in the car.

Thanks Chris. I set the antenna on my dash along with the FM modulator and it worked pretty well. It never lost the Sirius signal, only the FM one would lose reception sometime.
I was thinking of setting it on the back deck somewhere near the brake LED. Wonder if that would work...

I work at a Tweeter, which is a high end stereo shop here in California and the installers told me its not a good idea to have that thing inside the car because of the satellites. If you have tint on that rear deck that may mess with your reception so I would either put it on the roof or give the dash a chance I guess.

When I first got my Sirius unit I just placed the antenna on the dash until I had time to mount it on the roof and run the wire under the door moldings, under carpets, etc. I don't recall ever having lost the signal while it was on the dash.
Did you consider the AA!-NIS unit from PAC audio to replace your FM modulator? It runs a direct signal to the "audio-in" hookup that the factory SAT would use. I use it for my iPod but it will work with any audio source that has or can be adapted to an RCA output. It doesn't do anything fancy, just provides a cean "line-in" to the head unit. Write me if you have questions. I have pics of the AAI-NIS install as well. It took me under 30 minutes to put it in.

If you have an install with pics on the AAI-NIC unit from Pac...PLEASE post! I don't have an IPod, but I do have an Archos Multimedia player and I would like to plug it in via 3.5 mm head phone jack and the other end via RCA jacks on this AAI-NIC unit. I have a 05 3.5SE and I'm a little weary about tearing apart the console without good instructions....please post them!!! Thanks!!!

Ok, here are the pics. I wanted to include some instructions but I haven't had the time. There is a "how to" sticky that used to have pics that gets you most of the way there. Have fun! Also, I'd love to hear others' thoughts on these types of installs.
Re: PAC AAI-NIS
Could either of you fellers give me an idea of the cost for the PAC AAI-NIS , and maybe even a lead on where would be a good place to purchase one. I received a new Sirius satellite radio for Christmas and I'm preparing for an install in my '00 SE max.
