Sticky Cup Holders!

Whats up everyone?
I spilled a drink over my console about 6 months ago when I hit an unexpected dirt road. I should have done a better job cleaning my mess but apparently did not. This made the locking mechanism for the latch over my cup holder not very smooth when closing and un-closing. I believe the liquid got into the lock and turned sticky. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you go about cleaning it out? Open to any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Take the entire cover off (see sticky at top of forum) and wash it.

us024077,
It's not the cover that is the problem, it's where the insert of the cover fits into the cup holder assembly (for lock and un-lock). I don't want to take my interior apart if possible.

Liberally spray it with Windex and clean it out as best you can with a Q-tip.
