I think you read my mind. I was thinking of this just the other day. I know they got them for other years. My only conern is that the trunk, with at least my spoiler weighs a lot. Quite heavey not sure if the hinges would support it enough.

Warren, you trying to do something like this? I tried doing this a long time ago but gave up. On the other gens they have the arms for the trunk, the guys Ive talked with bought cheap hinges from home depot and mounted them to the lid. Our cars have shocks, so I guess if you could find some arms it could work...?

um, i don't think anyone made them for us since we have shocks and not hinges. get Redline to make them for you or talk to the other guys about homemade ones.

Is there a way to upgrade trunk shocks for those with spoilers?

i've thought about that since my chromed-brass plate frame alone makes it slam shut. I say just find any higher pressure shock in a yard or something.

http://www.thehoffmangroup.com:16080...?itemid=FLIPTR this is by autoloc who is extremely famous for their suicide doors... they even have an installation step by step if you want...... my suggestion is buy the ones off of ebay and use their step by step and if it's hard to understand use autoloc's instructions they have good pics to help in figuring it out...... good luck..... post pics k....

Okay, I had a different thought about the suicide trunk before I read the thread. I thought Ramberg meant reverse openning like for convertible tops, not flip-flop.

Def. different idea, but will be too heavy for hinges and more difficult to see inside the trunk at shows etc..

What if you remove the shocks and flip it the same way you would as the 4th and 5th gens?

as estated before, it might make it harder to see inside the trunk and maybe even hard to use the trunk in any way but i think that look would be soooo freaking cool...just me..

now, for what i read/heard before...we cant do this... because of the shocks and also because we basically have no space for the hinges to be supported inside the trunk...yeah i guess there are many places and ways to secure it and make it work but i guess it is not only about making it work but also about making it look good and functional... i still think the convertible top trunk would be soooooo hot... interesting look...

ok bear with me.... I have put together a couple quick sketchs to show you some ideas of what you would have to do..... this took me a bit to play with and think about..... here are a couple pics...... I will post instructions if needed..... pics pretty much explain it though.... the only real obstical are working with the curves of the trunk because the hinges in order to work right need to be positioned perfect..... as far as weight with spoiler.... with this mechanism/hing setup, wieght is needed on that side to keep trunk at a balanced level.... the hinge is setup to open only 90 degrees and not further..... as of right now our trunks open up a complete 90 degrees allready so countering the 90 we allready have brings the trunk back to zero which is how you get the level effect.... so no matter where you place the hinges you will allways be level with this trunk.... however the length of the "extra" piece is very important with this..... the length of the extra piece will determine how high up your trunk will sit.... my recommendation is the higher the better.... you are limited on the height to..... check out the pics.... this pic is self explanitory that one is an idea of the extra piece you will need to make.... this one is very important because it shows what I am trying to explain this is under the trunk cover..... if you notice the big hole.... I put my finger in the whole and there is about 1in or more of a gap between the inside of the trunk and the outside in that general area... so putting a couple screws right there should be fine as long as they are not that long..... check for yourself to make sure in order to keep from having a screw come out the top... this is basically what you will have when done..... microsoft paint is a pain let me tell ya.... lol .....

if you are worried about the wing because of this pic, don't be.... the trunk if you look at it origionally only opened 75 degrees or so when fully open therefore you have the extra lean towards the rear bumper.... not the case with our trunk because our trunks go completely 90 degrees..... wow after doing all this work I might try it out myself..... plus looks kinda sick....

You are the man. Thanks for taking the time to explain this. I might have to drive to your hometown for the install.

you guys are silly, that won't work for our cars... I like the shocks way better than the arms any day, more room in the trunk and it looks way cleaner..

I did it on my 02 maxima and its cool, but that because it came with the arms, I will never mod some arms to my 6th gen..

that's why you make sure the fabricated arm is long enough for clearance....... and keep the origional hinges installed this will keep the trunk from flipping open fast like trunks without..... and tek I think you are wrong when you say it won't work..... give me about a month and I will post pics of it complete..... if someone does this sooner post pics so we all can see.... I was thinkin about designing a new hood to have fabricated.... any one have ideas..... I have a point of contact who might be able to make some if there was a group buy and cut a good deal..... the design is deffinitly the factor with this.... a plain carbon fiber hood is ghey.... and a waste of money.... I was thinkin something like the new gto or firebirds.... maybe even the Grand prix.... nothing like the evo.... that is ghey too.... no huge hood scoops just something sleek and satisfying.... let me do some more research on this and I will start a new post unless there is one allready created.... I will look....
