"fast, Huh?"

I was at Discount Tire the other day, and the service rep told me he liked my car. Then he looked at me with a smirk and said, "Fast, huh?"

That got me thinking, when people comment on my car, thats usually the first or second comment.....FAST, HUH? That seems to be the first perception most people have. It isnt just mechanics, its all types of people. Of course my response is, "Oh yaaaa"

For as much talk on here about these being seen in some states as granny cars, this doesnt seem to be the perception in Houston at least. I bet the TV spots have done alot in regarding the Maxima as a really fast car.

Just wondering if you all get the same comments?

Haters and droolers

Forward:I am 23 and look about 18-19..

Jayz how old are you? I have a comment I recieved at a 7-11 convenience store last year sometime. A couple construction workers were getting beer and the one looks at me and goes...what u put you finger in a lightsocket? i used to do the gel/spike thing...So I played it off and left the store to go to class. I sat in my car which was parked right at the door. He came out and first thing he did was look and go:
"What's wrong with this picture?"
I said "what?"
Then he goes on this pathetic thing about how daddy paid for my car.....daddys money....etc..etc...as he gets into a ranger with his friend. so we both back out and this guy is still runnin his mouth and i just said i paid for this, its mine and drove off.
Just the first thing that came to mind when remembering someone talking to me about my car.

Here is a happier one:
I was inside Bert's Bikes & Sports, parked right infront of the sliding double door entrance.
When I came out and was approaching my vehicle in the distance I see one guy cupping his hand on my window and a friend of his standing near my car to see the interior. The friend says to the guy whose peeking inside "you want one?" he replies "naaah" (as i approached i said "like it'?) He was visably startled and replies "Yeah!"...It felt good hopping in and pulling away that day hehe

Here's one that happen to me. I purchased my car and few months later, I drove to Ottawa (about 9 hours) to visit some friends. We were in downtown Ottawa at a stoplight and some college kids hollered out to my friend (who's in the passenger seat) "Hey...do you have some change to donate?" My friend said "No...I don't have any change." The student said "You don't have ANY change?". My friend said no. The college kids said "You would have some change if you didn't buy that crappy car". I was pissed !!!

I'm on 2 silvers in a row. Having a silver car prior made me want another one!!
As for the lower bumper, I'm thinking the Active Tuning grill (if it ever comes out) will have a frame around it which I'll paint silver and the center mesh will stay black, all assumptions of course. In which case I'd like the lower bumper blk to match it.
Something like this (not the best photoshop!)

Oh no dont tell me I just spent $200 only to get a different grille in the future! They gotta make the damn thing in colors though, who the heck wants to go through the trouble of getting it painted after youve spent so much on it in the first place? Sarona is on crack for charging $250 unpainted. And All you need to do to make a sarona grille is paint the stock, cut out the teeth and put mesh behind it.

It was a somber day when I discovered the Skyview does not open...I remember going to the dealer lot when it was closed and examining it in detail looking for how to open it..I couldnt believe it didnt open! I assumed it did....Talk about a tight mod, Id like to see someone pull that off...Anything is possible given the $.

I get all kinds of looks for my car.. I gotta wonder what they are thinking.
But stopped by NTB today and I got 2 complments on a nice car. and at the Dunkin Doughnuts with all the college kids were checking it out. The skull races were in town. So I parked it for 15 mins to see how many people look at it. Lost count. My orange baby sticks out.. lol.

nice thread and posts...
04BlackMaxx, i feel ya. I'm 24 and have my hair all over. so guess it makes me look younger too. (b/c before i was always considered older)...

I often see people checking out my Baby, such pride. I laugh when (usually 30-40 y/o men) someone is looking at my car as i pass slowly; then their demeanor changes as they see how young i am. Talk about hate/jealousy portrayed on a face.

those that inquire, ask: "fast, huh?" and/or (while nodding) ask "like it?"

so i know even though some (even members/owners here [no names]) think otherwise, many recognize the Maxima as a fast car.

I suppose it's the glass you use to look through. If you're a car guy and know about porsches, mustangs, vettes, etc. the Max is a spirited family sedan. But to the majority of the public that cars are merely a necessity for travel (or understand cars but only have what they can afford), the Max is way faster then what they're accustomed to and they recognize it's prowess.

All I know is that immediately after driving any friend/family member's car and drive Max, I have a big as/ grin.

Not to start a war with the 4th or 5th gen folks but I have gotten more compliments on this car than on any other Max that I have owned ('95 and '02). It makes me feel a little funny when people are always looking over at me at stoplights.

Yeah I think my one time experience was with a jelous loser who had other issues of his own to deal with...Nismo's right, especially around here where I live...the new maxima is as rare and different as seeing any other expensive luxury car...and at the time I got it, lots of people saw it for the very first time. Thats why I dont regret buying it when I did. 60% of the vehicles I see daily are trucks/SUV's...35% are you basic garden variety mixture of transportation appliances (kia's, cavaliers, tauri, regals, grand am's, camrys etc...) and id say 5% would be the luxury names and more expensive vehicles.

I think one of my best compliments was from another 6th gen owner.
I parked right next to a silver max. A lady with her husband was in awe, when she saw my Radiant Ember. She said. "they didn't have that color when I got my silver, I Love that color" I just said replied back with a smile and thanks, and said well at least you have a Max.

Nah, this guy saw my Dunlop SP 9000's with plenty of tread left. (although he could have been eyeing me for the future)

I choose to believe hes just a guy who recognizes a bad a*ss car when he sees one

Nismo, I agree with your last post. I really do think the general population regards these as very fast vehicles. As JSmith said, they look fast sitting still!

I do love my Max!!

I don't think that I have ever had a compliment on my Max but I live in the D where foreign are not recieved that well.
I don't think that the Max is that fast either in fact I think that my 02 Altima may have taken it. Fast sedan is the Audi S4 Blinding speed
my 2 cents

Ive lived in Detroit. You wont find much love for anything foreign there, thats for sure.

Jama, I agree the S4 is super fast, but I cant see how your old Altima would be a comparison. Especially an 02'

If I had an extra $20k lying around, I might be driving an S4.

Jealous retards. I used to hear that kind of stuff all the time when I was a kid and had my SS. Even tho I paid for the car I would say yea daddy did buy it for me and he bought me a house and left me a trust fund oh and did I mention now I don't have to work either. After that they all would shut up and drive off.

Aow, I believe you read into this wrong. The guy wasnt jealous, he was being geniune in thinking the Maximas were fast cars. Granted, its no SS, but the thread is about the general publics perception that the Max's are fast!

I love catching compliments for my car. The other day, one of my friends made my day at school. I was talking to her while I was in my car and she asked me if I had just bought the car. I bought the car in May of '04. I was happy as could be. She said that it looked so clean and hot(it was a lil dirty). That just made my day. Other than that, I catch compliments all the time.

I'm 24 and I am often asked if I drive my father's car.....
moreover, for some reason, new honda accords always bother me when I'm driving.
I've never let them drive in front of me tho.....

Just purchased an 04 SE loaded w/nav 16,000 miles. Car does get alot of stares but from the younger generation 18-23. I am 29 look a little older since I am outgrowing my hair. The car is red opulence with factory chrome rims but the previous owner tinted the back windows. I don't think I am ready to part with the rims yet but the tint has to go. Looking for that classy/sporty mix.
