tow truck?.............AAA?.............I have road side service w/ my extended warranty.
but yeah, my first thought was why leave the spare in if unable to get to it? you may as well reinstall the sub enclosure to get it out. but I remember being 19.....

Ouch...
That's one of the reasons I haven't done anything in my trunk yet... the only thing that's even remotely possible for me is that Basslink, since I need the trunk space and not having access to the spare would be pretty bad if I needed it.
But as far as your problem, AAA will tow you a certain # of miles for free... or even your insurance might offer towing to the nearest flat fix. But make sure to have a plan B, just in case they take it off and it can't be fixed...

The tires I got on the Maxima now I got from a Goodyear center in Long Island. They have a similar warranty (50% of thread though, not 36 months).
Tirerack has something similar with their Road Hazard program... 36 months (or 2/32") on reimbursement and 100% of the cost for 12 months, but only for certain tires. It's pricey, but it sure as hell is worth it IMO.

If it blows because of a nail or something, you get it fixed and they reimburse you for it, up to $25. If it's damaged beyond repair, within a certain time period and up to a certain thread percentage, they'll replace it. I think the max they'll cover is like $400 or something, and it doesn't apply to ALL their tires, and it doesn't cover off-roading or the like.
But again, you don't have to take my word for it... go check it out yourself.

why not remove the spare and cover the hole w/ plexi or fill it with foam or something. it's a waste to have that weight if it's never to be used. I'd fill the space w/ detailing supplies and make a door out of the cover w/ a hinge.
so where was your car stranded?

I have 20" rims and a box in the back....solution, jack up car, remove tire, have friend take you to shop and get new tire.
Or.......remove box, access spare, mount spare, drive to shop, replace tire.
Or.......depending on the leak, have friend bring compressor, inflate tire add fix a flat, drive to tire shop after calling to make sure they have the tire in stock, and then, inform them about the fix a flat. This is a last resort option.
