Okay guys,

I just got the HID headlights installed. They work perfectly... except..!!!

Problem location: Drivers side headlight

Problem: Sheild for hi beam stays up even after i let go of hi beam!! Other is okay no problems. Whats up with this sheild? After flickering from hi to low beams a few times it lets go and drops... but then stays up if i hit the hi's a few times more...

Any ideas?

Dealer Solution: HID Unit Error-must replace

I dont buy that... he said there are 2 bulbs in the HID unit, 1 for hi and 1 for low.. i thought there was a sheild that exposes the full bulb when u hit the hi?! Am i wrong? He also said that i'll need to change the HID Unit (he means Ballast i guess) and bulb. Why??? they work fine!!! its just the fact that it gets jammed when i hit the hi beam...

any ideas guys?

I have my 2 normal headlights if that may help in any way.... HELP!

 

so i assume You installed oem HIDs? Some people have had a shutter stuck open. Under warranty the dealer replaces it. Seriously your Nissan Dealer said 2 bulbs? We only have one bulb w/ a shutter.

you really have no choice but to fix it yourself or buy a new setup. everyone else has it stock so Nissan fixes it with replacement.

 

Exactly what i thought!! 1 bulb with a shutter! Useless service ppl. Okay, I installed full OEM HID headlights... shouldn't that be under warranty? I know its not the stock headlights, but if i go to another nissan dealer will they change it?

How would i go about fixing it myself?

What parts would i need to buy?

Edit: Not only did he try to convince me that it was 2 bulbs for HID, he wanted me to order the ballast to get it fixed... WTF???

 

like i said, you would be the first and have to tell us. take it apart and play with it, lube the hinges or something, who knows?

Nissan only warrants what they sold you. You either A) need a friend or very generous service manager to "hook you up" or B) find an ignorant service dept. that ignores that your VIN reports halogen when the computer reports no HID parts for your vehicle.

well yeah the dealer will try to make $$ off of you. part replacement is illogical sometimes. it may just call for entire system to be replaced.

 

ok heres a question... can I use the shutter from my halogen headlight? Just a quick replacement and everyone lives happily ever after?

 

Go onto HIDPLANET.COM...
they have forums and know the intricate details of our Hella projectors and their mods are as helpful as they get...these guys know their stuff and take apart units just like ours.

 

that has been brough up before, and it was left at they are different metals. the bulbs are also different shapes. it's really left up to you to find all this out for sure and figure it out.

have you tried contacting who you bought these from? how were they obtained? are they off a wreck, replaced b/c defective, or stolen? maybe they can help you with a replacement (doubtful) or get you a new shutter.

to fix you will need to risk opening them.

wait patiently on the HID site, but maybe search for any similar info and contact people. meanwhile don't use the high beams. I hardly ever use them.

like I said you're likely the first to have this problem w/o warranty.

however, how on earth am i gonna get the projector out without taking the entire headlight housing off? (dont wanna do the whole bumper removal thing again)

If i get it out and still cant fix it, will replacing the projector fix this? (ie. is the sheild part of the projector?)

 

that guy seems to know his stuff and is your best help on this. Why do the posts say "May1 10:24am" lol Anyway, I would try to locate the projector online or from another wreck. or see is DAVEB can get one. pm him. he is the Org Nissan parts supplier. you're gonna have to do some surgery again to take everything apart.

or check eBay for a headlight

 

Okay, i got the sheild to come down with a little tapin on the inside case and a lot of hi-beam flicking...

Im gonna level them, then leave it like this without using hi's until i find me a new projector. I prefer replacing than fixing.. shes to precious!!!

if any of u come along a projector.. plz let me know.
