thinkin about movin on up

i want to really buy a used 04 SE in a few months. But, i know people with 4th and 5th gens that have problems with there back brakes locking up beucase of the e.brake. I was wondering if you guys had any problems yet with your brakes if u frequenlty use the ebrake.

I'm not familiar with any ebrake issues with the 6th gen. that you mentioned for the 4th and 5th generations. If it is true that there are indeed no ebrake issues with the 6th gens., I would suggest that you consider also a 2005 6th gen. (if that is an option available to you) as opposed to a 2004 model as another, perhaps even greater variable in your decision beyond just the ebrake question. Generally speaking, there seems to be considerably more issues with the 2004 6th gens. than with the 2005's. Most notable among the 2004 issues is a "shimmy"/vibration that comes through to the steering wheel from the front of the car. You may want to read some of the ill fortune that several 2004 Maxima owners have experienced. The shimmy problem seems much diminished in frequency and magnitute among the 2005 owners. Also, check the TSB's differences between the 2004's and the 2005's, in addition to the TSB's common to both model years. Good luck with your decision and purchase.

I agree. While the 06 will cost more--at least for a few months--the added resale value should more than compensate.

I would like to get an 06 but its not in the budget unfourtunetly. Im hoping that buy the time i buy the 06 models will be out and the used 04 prices will drop to 19k or lower. How low u guys think the 04 prices will go?

I guess it depends on what trim and options you are looking for.. the basic ones will hit that mark sooner than the fully loaded ones obviously..

Given that cost is obviously a concern, have you considered a loaded 2003 as an alternative? They don't have the problems inherent to the 2004s and are made in Japan, not a new production line in Tennessee.

well, I haven't had the problems people have had with their 04, so my advice is get an 04 that was made atleast one year after they rolled of the line..

they made the first one around 3/03 so look around for one that has a build date one year after that or more.

FYI, mines is a 6/04 and I haven't came across any probs mentioned... I had 1 minimal prob since I bought it and it was covered under the warranty...

I have an 04 SE with Nav and the Elite Package. I have had zero problems with mine, so far with 15,000 miles (knock on wood). My build date was 06/03. I think if you were to test drive an 04, you would be able to notice any issues such as a shimmy.

Good Luck

my 04 build date 06/03 has plenty of probs..

skyview, shift ****, chrome trim on top, glove box, some clap on the bottom rattles/buzz, drivers door scraped when closing, gauge pod covers went dull, passengers seat fell backwards twice, grill, rust corrosion under hood, and a few small lil things here and there...with as much work as they re-did to my car... i should have my car re-built by the time my warranty expires... they practically replaced everything in the car

My 2004 6th gen has been rock solid, sick fast and an absolute fun car to drive. Mine is also a fully Loaded SE with DVD Nav. Now, only issue I had was a slight hesitation after 13K miles and the problem was fixed with new spark plugs. Safely slammin the gas again though...

Good call. The 06's may have more issues worked out, but considering what these cars cost brand new and what the resale on em is, especially current yr very low mi used ones, this is definently one to pick up used. I picked up my 04 with 5k mi on it for almost $15k less then what an identical brand new one's sticker was.
