Speaking of powertrain...my transmission has been not itself lately. (maybe the past 3 days) I'm not sure how to describe it, but the car feels slightly sluggish. Mostly noticable in downshifting (04 SE Auto). I'm at 40k miles... Any thoughts?
Then maybe you guys should take your cars in and take advantage of the powertrain warranty. Not sure about you folks, and I didn't click on the link, but for the 5.5gs the powertrain warranty is not up until 60k...
I could not get the picture here. There is a stopper on the dipstick. Press it
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Check for any transaxle fluid leaks.
3. Before driving, the fluid level can be checked at fluid temperatures
of 30° - 50°C (86° - 122°F) using the “COLD” range on the
A/T fluid level gauge.
a. Park the vehicle on a level surface and set parking brake.
b. Start the engine and move the transaxle selector lever through each gear position. Leave the selector
lever in the “P” park position.
c. Check the fluid level with the engine idling.
d. Remove the A/T fluid level gauge and wipe it clean with a lint-free paper.
1. Run the engine to warm up the transaxle until the fluid is at full operating temperature of 50° - 80°C (122°
- 176°F).
2. Stop the engine.
3. Drain the A/T fluid by removing the drain plug. Reinstall the drain
plug to the specified tightness using a new drain washer.
4. Refill the transaxle with new specified A/T fluid through the A/T fluid charging pipe. Always refill the transaxle
with the same volume amount that was drained out.
CAUTION:
Do not overfill the transaxle.

4 A/T : 29 - 39 N·m (3.0 - 4.0 kg-m, 22 - 29 ft-lb)

This is very helpful ramberg. Makes me more confident that I can pull something like this off. How long does the whole process take. Then again, I'm thinking that at 40k miles on a 6th gen I shouldnt have to change the tranny fluid. I've heard rumors that flushing disturbs the particles and creates problems. Is draining really supposed to be better?
Draining takes out the metal shavings that invariably crop up when moving parts collide. There is a magnet in the transmission fluid pan but, it doesn't always catch everything. When I flush my 4th gen, I drop the pan, clean the magnet and replace all the fluid to keep the transmission in tiptop shape.
